Trev’s Virtual Cassette Library 271

www.mixcloud.com/djsofabed/tvcl-271/

Good day, listeners… or should I say, travellers of the tape.
Trevor here. You’ve just pressed play on another fragile spool of the Virtual Cassette Library. Episode 271. A twelve-track virtual cassette that flips itself at the halfway mark, whether you’re ready or not.
If you make music, or run a label, and fancy a place in the library, send your links or Bandcamp codes to trevlad@gmail.com. I read every one. Promise.
Tips and subscriptions keep the reels turning. Every little helps the library stay open after dark.
A reflective, slightly mysterious ambient journey through memory, floating worlds, and quiet observation.
Side A drifts from cello warmth and barking flowers into micro-drones, memory death, and floating liminality. Side B moves through ghosts, watchful figures, dusty relics, field-recorded nostalgia, watery reflections, and ends in Borges-inspired shadow.
Overall mood: Contemplative, nostalgic, and gently enigmatic — full of soft transitions and quiet emotional depth. Perfect for late-night listening, deep focus, or peaceful solitude.
I’ll introduce Side A now. Side B will wait for the intermission, as is tradition.
The shows remain free for the first week, then slip quietly into the hands of my Mixcloud subscribers, who currently have 1,095 other episodes waiting for them whenever the mood strikes. Subscribers also receive the expanding series Veil Frequencies, recorded floor-by-floor inside the 24 buildings of a place called the Resonant Veil Enclave. They also get the ever-growing advance version of the forthcoming compilation Quiet Figures.
Side A
On this episode you’ll hear Stockholm cellist Henrik Meierkord teaming up with Indian artist Suseti for the title track “Hilate” from their latest name-your-price release.
Then Rotterdam’s Ard Janssen, better known as Ard Bit, guides us through surrender and introspection with “Barking Flowers” from the album Juxtaposed. That’s out on Dronarivm’s side hustle DƎЯRDE.
Next, the trio of Zach Frizzell, Kaiton Slusher and James Clements — zakè, Ossa and ASC — open their remarkable album Microliths and Momentary Drifts with the delicate “Microlith 1”.
After that, a piece from Boards of Canada’s Inferno: the quietly devastating “Memory Death”, out on Warp Records of course.
Then a collaboration between Tomotsugu Nakamura and David Cordero: the floating “Ukiyo” (floating world) from the album Aware 哀れ which in Japanese translates as pity or sorrow. Thats out on the wonderful Home Normal label.
Closing Side A is Venezuelan artist Angelo Sanellix together with Mexican producer Justin Ortiz (as SpoonBeats), offering liminal ambience in “long time ago” from the album Distant Particles, released on the prolific Stockholm label Valley View Records.
But first, the opening track of the cassette: Henrik Meierkord & Suseti with “Hilate”.
Now settle in. Turn it up just a little. Let’s see where the tape takes us.
One side flip. Just the music.
Side B
Welcome back, sonic travellers. Six tracks down. Six still waiting.
You’ll hear one of the strongest supporters of this channel — Gareth Evans, known here as HDRF — with an exclusive track from the forthcoming compilation Quiet Figures (out 26 September). His piece is the wonderfully titled “Mr Baines (Is Watching You)”.
Then Scottish modular artist and Dustopian Frequencies curator Everyday Dust offers “Maria” from his latest album The Relic Room.
Next, Chesapeake, Virginia’s Ryan Watts (Akira Film Script), a long-time friend of the library and contributor to The Mystery of the Night. Here he brings the heavily field-recorded “N6-79” from Over Exposure on Driftworks. Shout-out to Andrew Heath for keeping that label so consistently excellent.
Near the end we drift through elemental sensations with Intact Veils (Kraków) and “Image of Water” from the album Saint Imago, released on The Artificial Pine.
And finally, Paul Haslinger and Christian Wittman close the tape with “Elogio de La Sombra” (In Praise of Shadow) from their album Borges — an immersive soundscape into the world of Jorge Luis Borges — on their own label NOION Music.
But first, Raleigh, North Carolina’s Derrick Stembridge, better known as Drifting In Silence and here as Unknowndivide, opens Side B with the drifting drones and IDM glitches of “Ghost” from the album Existence on Labile Records.
Enjoy…
