Trev’s Virtual Cassette Library 348

onward & upward.

Hi folks and welcome to onward & upward episode 348 of my Virtual cassette library. Happy Saturday and I hope your Bandcamp Friday went down in History. I myself appear on my first physical release on the mindblowing compilation Volume Two from the fantastic The Synthesis Co-Op. It’s probably a physical release I’ll never see but I’m happy that so many UK listeners get to hold it. It has a zine too. Everything is pretty much sold out after yesterdays release. There are cassettes and zines left as far as I can tell. Speaking of cassettes I’m sending actual physical mix tapes to new subscribers or tip givers which I thought was a great idea but so far I have only managed to lose a subscriber.
Anyway on to the show and the first side will include Ghostloop, Lord Cernunnos, TRAINDEER, Dave Clarkson and finally On Idyl .
Side B will flip itself like a polite pancake while you just breath.
Also shout outs to Dave Clarkson, Pablo Bilbao of Cyclical Dreams. All the artists and labels featured in the episode and the followers that have favourited the shows.
First off is Gollden with “onward & upward” from her album Sundial which was supposed to be released through the Anjunabeats label in October but seems only to be available on streaming platforms. Written and recorded during the depths of late fall and Canadian winter exploring themes of loss, grief, uncertainty, and finding your own light when everything around you begins to go dark. A fitting opener to todays episode Enjoy…

Welcome to the intermission or the flip side. You just heard the track “Cast Upon the Shores of the Unknown” by Bellingham’s finest On Idyl from that wonderful compilation The Synthesis Co-Op Volume Two of yours truely am lucky enough to share a space with 16 other amazing artists. Remember If you make music, run a label, or hold a private archive of material that has not yet found a place, send links or Bandcamp codes to trevlad@gmail.com. Every submission is considered. The next set will feature midorinozu, Oberlin, Nick May, Ocean Moon & Silver Ley and K Man The Phantom. But first Mindheal with the track “Wish You Weren’t Here”. Enjoy…

These are not playlists. Each episode is structured as a pair of continuous sets: six tracks on each side, mixed and stitched so the joins sit almost inside the grain. The sequence is the form.
If you make music, run a label, or hold a private archive of material that has not yet found a place, send links or Bandcamp codes to trevlad@gmail.com. Every submission is heard.
The episodes remain free for the first week. After that they move into the Mixcloud subscriber archive. Subscribers also receive Veil Frequencies, the ongoing series of three-hour transmissions—extended traversals rather than selections, moving through a curtain of sound that occasionally seems to register the listener in return.
Mind the flip.

Onward and upward through a sundial, then an egungun among the skeletons.
Side A finds the light with the winter already behind her, lets the rain arrive after all with the distant sea kind, lifts the flying cars over a cityscape already beneath them, raises the kanashibari from dust to dawn, loses itself in an abandoned location of the British Isles, and is cast upon the shores of the unknown that is already welcoming. Side B speaks the wish that someone weren’t here so the space can open, moves the arc so the horizon is lost and found, names the Odiliengarten with the ways already further, softens the crash into a lost piece that is kept, shifts the light across prismatic fields, and dances the egungun while the skeleton listens.
Overall mood: Lifted, and quietly open — full of found light, welcoming shores, and spirits already dancing. Perfect for dusk listening, soft cityscapes, or sitting still while the next spool still waits.

Side A
Mood mist: onward and upward through a sundial, rain that arrives after all, flying cars over a cityscape, a kanashibari from dust to dawn, a loss in an abandoned location, a casting upon the shores of the unknown.
