A voice returning after the cold months, then fortunes drifting offshore.
Side A stitches the voice back into the static once the winter has stepped aside, marks a path home through ruins on a planet whose stars are crashing, keeps the balance beyond words, dreams the future into the present on a planet of seers, ties the bionic score against the snowsuit and is happy about it, and walks the dream-road to a city that lives only in sleep. Side B lets the corridors forget the year while still holding the echo, keeps the smallest particle that binds a universe, holds the question of consciousness with arms still raised, draws one line from an unknown source enough to hold the page, lets animals arrive politely from the sky, and drops the coins still turning into water already waiting.
Overall mood: Mythic, and quietly open — full of detuned lullabies, unfinished questions, and roads that still accept entries. Perfect for dusk listening, silent rooms, or sitting still while the next spool still waits.

Side A leaves the lettering still readable if you stand at the right angle, remixes ladders through a Sussex exchange with the rungs already warm, keeps the amniotic membrane grateful for the quiet, lets dust remember the sea just close enough for a little silt, edits a nomad for a decade of Batov still open in the stacks, and lets the dub smoulder so the ember does the work of the flame. Side B reconnects a piano and a vibraphone after thirty years with the conversation still open, holds the tunnel’s echo of the last train and the next that may yet come, lets the ornamental letter arrive with its loops intact, teaches seagulls the steps while the shoreline keeps time, keeps a Toronto live tape warm from the floor with the imperfections as the point, and stays where the sky decides to stay.
Overall mood: Slightly archival, and quietly warm — full of faded signs, open conversations, and horizons that know their own colour. Perfect for dusk listening, abandoned locations still holding sound, or sitting still while the next spool still waits.

Right then, my glittering cassette moths…
It’s time I had a quiet word with the universe about this Virtual Cassette Library lark of mine. Lately it’s been drifting off like a helium balloon made of old mixtape innards, floating away from the original bonfire of my intentions. I need to yank it back by its magnetic tape tail before it disappears into a cloud of forgotten B-sides.
I’ve just been bathing in the first episode of The Signal by Wall of Ambient — Harry Towell and James Osland swimming through the ambient oceans like two elegant seahorses in velvet capes. Go and drink it in on Substack. And while you’re there, follow me like a loyal moth to my flickering neon sign.
Anyway, Harry said something that pinged my third eye: concept is the beating heart of an album. And I suddenly realised that even though I pluck these tracks from their original conceptual wombs, my shows are actually stitched together with their own secret concepts. Lately I’ve been chattering between tracks like a magpie on a telephone wire and the concept has been leaking out like cheese from a toasted sandwich.
So what’s the concept, you ask, while adjusting your imaginary pipe?
Well, I’ve spent my entire working life lurking on and around stages like a quiet caretaker with glitter under his nails. I see each episode as a colossal rotating stage — a great mechanical blooming lotus. The audience only ever glimpses a sliver of it at a time. Every artist is allotted the exact time it takes them to perform their piece. Then they rotate out of view like a peacock into fog, and the next act glides in. The stage spins at whatever speed the track demands — slow and syrupy or frantic and glittering.
I still want to whisper the names of the artists, the albums and the labels, so I’ll do that before each set — or “side,” as we cassette alchemists call them. Six little incantations per side, plus a general mist of what mood to expect.
Now… shall we let the stage begin to turn?
So episode 311 is a weathered, slightly spectral ambient journey through closing dive bars, overlapping canopies, and monuments that have already begun to kneel.
Overall mood: Contemplative, analog, and quietly dilapidated — full of forgotten light, phase transitions, and sockets still whispering in the dark. Perfect for late listening, empty stages, or sitting with the ivy while it finishes the sentence.
Side A lets shadows clock off at the edge of the universe, waves from a missed railway cutting, shares a stereo canopy, opens a December jar six months late, weathers the ivy through human architecture, and climbs dilapidated monuments only to accept itself.

But first, to set the vibe is Ramsgates finest, Nick Bonell aka Lone Bison with not only the opening tune from episode but the opener from his latest album “Longshore Drifting” out on channel champion label Castles in Space. This is “Down in Flames”.

After that Gordon Chapman-Fox an artist who is no stranger to the channel. A man with his noggin in the right place. “Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan” with the soaring track “Part of the Union” from the album “People & Industry Special Edition” with 4 bonus tracks from the 2021 original album, and you can grab that from the Castles In Space label.
This is followed by the Auckland, New Zealand artist Jim Marjoram and another piece from “The Silent Harvest Volume Two” FOLK POLICE RECORDINGS release the dark track is called “Lass of Lochroyan”.
Finishing off the first half is Berlin-based French musician arc rae and the stunning track “Mosaic” from the album “Bow and Arrow” and that’s out on long time channel supporter Las Vegas based Mystery Circles.
But first, to set the vibe is a collaboration I played on the last episode by Third Kind Records label curator Nicholas Langley together with university buddy Stephen Cousins. They are collectively known as Hz & Fisty Kendal here with the track “Relaxing Break” from the album “Now What?”

Starting us off is Liverpool based artist Borchardt with the bubbling piece titled “Hanko” from the self titled, self released album and also on the outstanding periodical magazine from Wirrals finest Moolakii Club Audio Interface.
Then another artist I played on the previous episode, Bristol based HAWKSMOOR with a medieval inspired “Myrddin Wyltt” from the album “Yclept Thorn” which you can obtain via the Library Of The Occult label.
After that an album I’ve played a lot lately and one of my favourite of the year so far “Petite Constellations” by Seattle based Bluetech here with the superb track “Hyperborealis”. You can grab the album from Bluetechs Bandcamp page, also Evans own label Behind The Sky on vinyl and Ian Boddy curated DiN Records for your CD version.
Then I’ve gone back to 2017 and a track from channel friend Belial Pelegrim titled “Followed by a Sinister Cloud” from the compilation release “Do You” from the, now defunct, Mangled Music Co., who were an affiliate of Triplicate Records.
Then the penultimate piece for today comes in the form of the 2014 track “Sun wind” by Protuberance from an album I’ve also played from in the previous episode “Recollections” go and grab a name your price version on the Bulgarian Mahorka label.
Finishing us off is UK duo Suncastle & Paris Texas known as Glass Roots with the soothing piece “Now Everybody” from their 2020 Triplicate Records release “The Idiot”.

Good evening… or morning… or whatever smeared fragment of clock time you’ve drifted into tonight. This is EXPANSIVE WAVES 26. I’m Trevor — your host, your unreliable cartographer of the long haul, your occasional sonic conspirator.
This one’s not built for the impatient. Eight pieces. Each one stretching beyond twelve minutes. Together they uncoil for over three hours. If you came looking for hooks, drops, or anything that resembles forward motion, best to paddle elsewhere. Or just dim the lights, let the room breathe, and allow the ceiling to become a slow-moving planetarium. That works too.
Big thanks to Ivo Petrov at the Mahorka label for nudging me into a Plank Tone. I got gloriously lost and ended up delivering four. The first surfaced on April 8th. Tonight you’ll hear more of those strange, unhurried faces — independent corners, leftfield wanderers, music that refuses to be hurried.
We open with a twenty-four-minute soup. For anyone who’s ever been in a band, this is that glorious end-of-session moment when everyone’s a little fried and the music starts melting at the edges.

Fresh from a live set at Dubrek in Derby — the whole concert, audience whoops and all, because Drew decided not to chop it into polite pieces. Glorious nostalgic synths that feel like warm Sunday light through old lace curtains in the Peak District.

An old favourite now — the Russian master x.y.r. who can drop you straight into deep jungle with nothing more than a few well-placed field recordings and patient tones.

Birdsong threading through endless green layers, turning any room into a porch overlooking humid canopy at dusk. Tip for fellow travellers: when in doubt, add birds. They open windows that weren’t there before.

Blade Runner rain on a corrugated tin roof, random synth trumpet stabs cutting through toxic haze. Neon signs flickering in puddles that never quite dry.

Ab uno — Remorae (b side)
Deep drone waters where subtle synth lines move like slow silver fish just beneath the surface — barely visible, yet impossible to ignore once you notice them.
Penultimate unfolding, from The Jewel Garden label’s compilation.
Floating House Ensemble — Seven
Sax and strings delicately sprinkled over choral swells, like light catching on the edge of a slow-moving tide. As the Bandcamp page quietly reminds us: “I stood there, the whole day wrapped around me. I stood there, crying, smelling vine.”

“Hello, I’m Trevor, and this is episode one‑five‑nine of the Virtual Cassette Library. Today’s theme is Twist Fondest Waffle—which, as usual, is both the track you’re hearing underneath and a location you can find on a map, if you’re the sort who enjoys chasing coordinates on What3Words. We’ve got ninety minutes ahead—two sides, fifteen tracks each. Some names you’ll know, some you won’t, and that’s half the fun. We begin with Arbee & Norvik drifting through a Montréal alleyway, Bary Center disappearing into the trees, and Pocket Lint reminding us that we grow through our friends. There’s a rise‑in‑love from micca, diamond‑cracking teeth from pjpriiincess, and a new sun courtesy of GODTET. Now then, starting back on episode 156, there’s a little cipher game running through the series. Each episode, during the intermission, you’ll hear a number. Scribble it down. After ten episodes, you’ll have the full sequence. Put the pieces together, crack the cipher, and you’ll unlock a code that knocks ninety‑five percent off anything on my Bandcamp page. Which means you can scoop up the whole discography for about two quid. It’s not meant to be difficult—just enough to keep you awake at night wondering if you’ll get it right. Roedelius appears, as he often does, like a quiet blessing. I’ve slipped in one of my own—Another Oddly Screamed—before Floating Points and Raphah carry us gently to the end. It’s ambient, kosmische, wintery, slightly haunted, and occasionally festive in a sideways sort of way. The sort of thing you might stumble across late at night on a shortwave dial, wondering if you imagined it. So—headphones on, let time dissolve, and let the music claim you.
