Good day listeners, wherever you are. Trevor here. Welcome to the Virtual Cassette Library. Episode 256. A 12 track virtual tape with a metaphysical flip at the half way mark. If you make music, or are a label, and would like to be featured, send your file links or Bandcamp codes to trevlad@gmail.com. I’d love to hear what you’re working on. Please leave a tip and subscribe to the Mixcloud channel every little helps. An eclectic, atmospheric journey blending whimsical dawn grooves, northern flows, and ancient mystical energies. Side A moves from sardine sunrises and titanium explorations into nodal precision, soft focus, and prime matter. Side B shifts through metropolitan gothic, leaping sorcery, seasonal transformation, and ancient tumuli. Overall mood: Playful yet contemplative, warm, and mysterious with a mix of light whimsy and deeper resonance. Perfect for adventurous listening, golden-hour drives, or late-night immersion. Episode 256 is based, appropriately, on the bubbling track “Hylé” by “Denis Violet” from the release “Connection: sculpting silence” out on Paris based Hylé Tapes label. Shout out to Richard Francés who has sent me a load of releases from his label this week. Thanks also to Paul Beaudoin, and Substak for sending me your latest works I’ll be featuring you very soon. In this episode you’ll be aurally pleasured by unmistakeably Polish artist Marek Kwiatkowski, An artists that has gone under the radar for years is the UK based Mark Ellery Griffiths. If you’re into vintage synths then dive into his vast name your price catalogue on Bandcamp. Mark gives us some brutalist electronica. Another regular of the episodes is Rick Jones aka DARK FIDELITY HIFI with Orb flavoured Idm out on his sight and sound label. Also London based Rodrigo Passannantis’ latest I can’t seem to get enough of those soaring synth lines lately. From the Cyclical Dreams label. Ivo Petrovs Mahorka label is almost always included. This time with quirky dub vibes from Mülheim, Germany based Record Of Tides. The B side opens with the 27 minute track showing us what the Nord Modular G1 can do by Switzerland based Rupert Lally. This track would have made it onto an Expansive Waves episode but I’ve decided to discontinue those due to lack of motivation. Clarinet based braindance from Berlin duo Meier & Erdmann. Then Leeds based Ethiopian Jazz flavours from The Source on ATA records. Then my friend Gavin Brick aka The Metamorph chills us out with live sci-fi injected ambient. Ending episode 256 is the great combo of Drew Mulholland & Garden Gate with a haunted finale via Subexotic Records. But setting the tape rolling today is an almost avant-garde Idm setting with Liryc303, here as, Cylander together with friend of the channel Fluffy Inside and their track Sardine Sunrise the Fluffy Inside’s Cloudy Dawn Mix. “Hello, I’m Trevor, and this is episode one‑six‑two of the Virtual Cassette Library. Today’s theme is Mugs Softest Owners—which, as usual, is both the track you’re hearing underneath and a location you can find on a map, if you’re the sort who enjoys chasing coordinates on What3Words. Before we begin, a very warm Happy New Year to you. Whether you’re listening on a walk, in the quiet of the early hours, or hiding from the world with a pair of headphones, I hope 2026 brings you peace, curiosity, and a few unexpected sonic discoveries. We’ve got ninety minutes ahead—two sides, fifteen tracks each. Some names you’ll know, some you won’t, and that’s half the fun. And a quick note: the tracks by Simon McCorry and Gregory Paul Mineeff in this episode are exclusives from the upcoming Whitelabrecs compilation sleeplaboratory6.0. Apologies to Harry for playing so many pieces from this wonderful release, which drops tomorrow, the 2nd of January. When something’s good, it’s hard not to share it. Now then, starting back on episode 156, there’s a little cipher game running through the series. Each episode, during the intermission, you’ll hear a number. Scribble it down. After ten episodes, you’ll have the full sequence. Put the pieces together, crack the cipher, and you’ll unlock a code that knocks ninety‑five percent off anything on my Bandcamp page. Which means you can scoop up the whole discography for about two quid. It’s not meant to be difficult—just enough to keep you awake at night wondering if you’ll get it right. The rest of the show wanders through kosmische corners, microtonal detours, lullabies, croquettes, mythology, therapy, vortexes, and the occasional snow‑dusted memory. The sort of thing you might stumble across late at night on a shortwave dial, wondering if you imagined it. So—headphones on, let time dissolve, and let the music claim you.”
