Side B lets the moon wobble a little more than it meant to show, hums rare earths through a circuit board in a language older than the plug, listens as a Connecticut house stretches fridge and rain into a room you can stand in, counts ninety minutes of air still in the lungs, files a ghost that already knew the address, and lets a stolen memory agree the room has changed.

Side B runs a rite hotter than the room agreed to, cuts a faun from the seventh tray of stones, reaches the far point of an orbit, refuses a capital letter for nights that would rather not be introduced, walks the last few steps into silence, and keeps the hymn book and the haunting on the same shelf.

Right then, my glittering cassette moths…
It’s time I had a quiet word with the universe about this Virtual Cassette Library lark of mine. Lately it’s been drifting off like a helium balloon made of old mixtape innards, floating away from the original bonfire of my intentions. I need to yank it back by its magnetic tape tail before it disappears into a cloud of forgotten B-sides.
I’ve just been bathing in the first episode of The Signal by Wall of Ambient — Harry Towell and James Osland swimming through the ambient oceans like two elegant seahorses in velvet capes. Go and drink it in on Substack. And while you’re there, follow me like a loyal moth to my flickering neon sign.
Anyway, Harry said something that pinged my third eye: concept is the beating heart of an album. And I suddenly realised that even though I pluck these tracks from their original conceptual wombs, my shows are actually stitched together with their own secret concepts. Lately I’ve been chattering between tracks like a magpie on a telephone wire and the concept has been leaking out like cheese from a toasted sandwich.
So what’s the concept, you ask, while adjusting your imaginary pipe?
Well, I’ve spent my entire working life lurking on and around stages like a quiet caretaker with glitter under his nails. I see each episode as a colossal rotating stage — a great mechanical blooming lotus. The audience only ever glimpses a sliver of it at a time. Every artist is allotted the exact time it takes them to perform their piece. Then they rotate out of view like a peacock into fog, and the next act glides in. The stage spins at whatever speed the track demands — slow and syrupy or frantic and glittering.
I still want to whisper the names of the artists, the albums and the labels, so I’ll do that before each set — or “side,” as we cassette alchemists call them. Six little incantations per side, plus a general mist of what mood to expect.
Now… shall we let the stage begin to turn?
So episode 311 is a weathered, slightly spectral ambient journey through closing dive bars, overlapping canopies, and monuments that have already begun to kneel.
Overall mood: Contemplative, analog, and quietly dilapidated — full of forgotten light, phase transitions, and sockets still whispering in the dark. Perfect for late listening, empty stages, or sitting with the ivy while it finishes the sentence.
Side A lets shadows clock off at the edge of the universe, waves from a missed railway cutting, shares a stereo canopy, opens a December jar six months late, weathers the ivy through human architecture, and climbs dilapidated monuments only to accept itself.

A disk error blooms into luminous data patterns. maps and diagrams – bloom.Solr- X a.41 [disk.err]. Signal fragments rearrange across open digital ground, each one expanding into new radiant forms.
Confusion gathers around a chosen image. Suncastle – Confusion. Sonic colours rise to meet the visual surface, opening into shared imaginative light.
A pavilion stands inside the sleeping Cityfield of Tokyo. Ryu Oshi – Denizen 3 — Pavilion. Offerings of orange light drift from a moving train window. Kami presence expands through electric piano and synthesizer duets, the urban subconscious glowing in mutual respect.

I’m trying something new by not introducing the artists, but instead incorporation their work into an incatation of sorts.

Side A drifts between seasons, vast multitudes, falling chimes, and tape endings. Side B settles into valleys of peace, soft flocks, watchful ravens, precise night hours, fleeting warmth, and ends on a lonely dirt road.

The penultimate track of the first side of the virtual cassette is by Manchester based artist Barry Smethurst aka Apta and a live take of his track “Emerge” from the 2025 release “Live @ Aviva Studios Manchester. 04/12/25” This track contains the only vocals on this episode, nice one Barry.
Finishing off the first half, friend of the airwaves, Cadis, Spain based, David Cordero and suspended atmospheres in the track titled “Segunda Linea” (Second Line) from the 2025 album “Numen” which means Divine Power in Latin.
But first, to set the vibe is the artist who got himself on this episode a few times by being super prolific, sending me material, and also by doing a collaboration with UK based artist Ian Hawgood, who mastered the previous played track and album. This is the blissful waves of Ian Hawgood & David Cordero in the piece “Between Seasons” from the album “Shifting Times” which is out on Davids’ own label Noray Records.

Welcome sonic travellers to the B side. Six tracks down and six to go.
You’ll hear the unmistakble sound of Jogging House in his track “Flock” from the 2025 album “Kiosk” out on artist currated super label Seil Records.
This is followed by Michael Cottone better known as The Green Kingdom and the guitar based ambient piece Raven from his stunning new release titled “Vespera” which means Evening in Esperanto. Thats out on a label that’s heavily on rotation here at the enclave. Whitelabrecs.
After that another live take this time by synth wizard Martin Stürtzer in the longest track of the episode clocking in at 21 minutes the space adventure piece “22:27” from the album “Dyson Sphere Beta“. A three hour live improvisation for Martins Birthday stream from 2025.
Then the penultimate track for today comes in the form of another Noray Records release from the compilation album “Aunque llegue la mañana · Refracted” (Even If Morning Comes) where 11 artists reinterprete the album by Raúl Cantizano & David Cordero this is the piece “Fugaz” (Fleeting) by Agustín Mena aka Warmth.
Finishing us off is San Diego, California based Phil Geraldi and the multilinear track “Lifeless Down a Dirt Road” from his vinyl debut album “Rural Deceased Undiscovered” out on Not Not Fun Records.
But first, a track from 2018 by Bali, Indonesia based artist Blank Embrace and the vaporscape tones of the track “Valley of Peace” from the album “Ascension” out on the Kaiseki Digital label.

Virtual mixtape radio for the sonically adventurous. 20 artists. Drops about three times a week. No schedule, just a passion for independent music.
Good evening, or morning, or whatever sliver of the clock you’ve managed to carve out for yourself. This is Trev’s Virtual Cassette Library, episode one hundred and seventy-one. I’m Trevor, speaking to you from the other side of the tape head, where the oxide still clings and the hiss is part of the charm.
We find ourselves on the twenty-third of January, two thousand and twenty-six, with a programme assembled in the spirit of those old C90s that used to stretch evenings without apology. Two sides, as ever. A gentle flip midway through. Twenty artists in total, no more, no less. The music wanders through ambient drifts that evoke Norwegian fjords and calm clouds over islands, psychedelic excursions rooted in Tokyo’s lost forests, motorik pulses, industrial jazz fragments, electroacoustic meditations, desolate plains of techno shadow, and transmissions that feel beamed from some parallel broadcast tower.
No rush here. The pieces breathe. Some stretch beyond the usual borders. If you’re in a hurry, the dial is yours to turn. Otherwise, stay. Let the kettle whistle its own tune. Let the room settle around you.
We open with the first of five exclusive tracks for the episode. This one from Revbjelde and the piece Non Chion – from that Extracellular promo CD on Buried Treasure. Berkshire’s particular strain of industrial jazz psych motorik folk, with guests adding their edges; here it’s a slow uncoiling, fragments of voice and rhythm that feel unearthed from some forgotten field recording.
Next, WEALDHAM with Spectral Points – self-released on Bandcamp. Ghostly electronics, lo-fi edges meeting something almost jazzy and indie, spectral in the truest sense, points of light flickering in the undergrowth.
Then Harry Towell aka Glåsbird, Kaldsår – from the Islas Calm Cloud compilation on Whitelabrecs. Modern classical ambient, electroacoustic, a frozen landscape thawing very slowly, evoking those northern Scandinavian waters and quiet inlets.
Next a new artist for me. Kikagaku Moyo with Kodama – from Forest of Lost Children on Guruguru Brain. Tokyo psychedelic rock, acid folk with raga undertows and krautrock momentum; this one carries the weight of ancient trees and childlike discovery, hypnotic and unhurried.
Then German artist, Tobias Lorsbach, aka, Logic Moon, Under The Blue – also from Islas Calm Cloud on Whitelabrecs. Deep, patient ambient layers, blue horizons stretching out, calm as the title suggests.
Now the amazing Dennis Huddleston, or, 36 as you probably know him, with Imagine The Truth – from Threewave on Past Inside The Present. Vast, immersive drone and ambient textures, truth imagined in slow-motion swells.
Now Tim Gilbert, as, Fields of Few, with a short entry, Northern Light Fading – from Sines Signals on Triplicate Records. Fading auroral glows translated into electronic signals, northern skies captured in synth and reverb.
Next the second of five exclusives from Saratoga Springs based David Aimone, Formless Statement – from Eulogy for an American Dream. Dropping on the 20 February via channel favourite label Passed Recordings. A eulogy delivered in abstract, formless shapes, poignant and drifting.
Here is another short one and an exclusive from Dolly Dolly & Fogroom with Clock Tower – again from that Extracellular promo on Buried Treasure. Avant-garde abstraction, perhaps clockwork mechanics wound down to a whisper, hip-swinging in strange time.

UK based, Martin Archer led jazz collective, Orchestra Of The Upper Atmosphere, and the fourth exclusive in the form of, Moonride – from their up coming release on Discus Music. Due out 30th January. Cosmic jazz orbits, upper atmosphere drifts where melody and improvisation meet the void.
And now another channel champion in the form of Bucla easel star Giulio Fontana known as, Ogle, Walking Robots – from Dystopian Leisure on Mahorka. Robotic gait in a leisure dystopia, electronic pulses that walk with mechanical melancholy.
Here’s one of my all time top artists. Finlands finest, Jimi Tenor Band, Shine All Night featuring Florence Adooni – from the Bureau B 2025 compilation on Bureau B. Afro-futurist grooves, shining through the night with soulful brass and voices.
Now the final track before the flip from the wonderful Polish artist, Wojciech Golczewski, Transmission 21 – from End of Transmission 3 on French label Data Airlines. Synth transmissions, data streams ending in quiet dissolution.
Opening the B side is the second Bucla artist and amazing Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, I Miss The Way You Swim – from Thoughts on the Future on a couple of places. One of them being the Nettwerk label. Buchla explorations, missing the fluid motion, modular sighs and swells.
Now we head th New Zealand and, Liam Todd, as, ZHERAV, NAJA – from Naja Bazaar on London legends Batov Records. Bazaar echoes, middle eastern motifs twisted into contemporary electronic forms.
Now Toronto-based, Jordan Czamanski or, Jordan GCZ, I Said What I Said – from The Second Circle compilation on Italian label Neroli Records. Direct, unapologetic house rhythms, spoken truths over the beat.
Next Oslo based, Mikkel Haraldstad, better known as, Mikkel Rev, Desolate Plains – from the 2025 label compilation mixed by todos, on A Strangely Isolated Place. Wide, empty landscapes in techno guise, desolate yet compelling.
And now Portland based label curator Eric Angelo Bessel, Double Helix – from Mirror at Night on his Lore City Music label. Spiralling structures, night mirrors reflecting genetic twists in sound.
The penultimate track of episode 171 comes from Russian artist Aleksander Tochilkin who we know as Koett, Lost Time – from Lost Time pre-release, which is an odd title for an EP that was released in 2013 on Dutch label Atomnation. Time slipping away, recaptured in melancholic electronic memory.
And finally on the episode I present to you, the fifth exclusive from Isle of Lewis based, Ali Murray or The Lonely Bell, Elsewhere – from his upcoming release Time Lost. Preorder on the Oscaron label from the 30 January. Tones ringing from somewhere distant, elsewhere indeed.
