You’ve pressed play on another Virtual Cassette Library. Twelve tracks. Two sides. A little plastic ghost that flips itself at the halfway mark, like a polite pancake.

The shows stay free for the first week, wandering about with their shoelaces undone. A porch that has already sat down, then a future you already remind someone of.
Side A cools piano phrases on a veranda still holding salt in the grain, teaches a scrap giant to stay kind while made of girders, paints sand purple-black for as long as you are looking, lets a Finnish sentence glide away, shares rust and wave in a hallway with every door on the latch, and finds winter already standing behind the pane. Side B leaves offerings past the last familiar planet, walks false suns politely in their lanes, keeps the hands through a damp postcard, rings a suburban tram once at a stop that knows your name, continues the second investigation under five triangles, and remembers a future in three parts with sense set aside.
Overall mood: Contemplative, slightly seasonal, and quietly kind — full of unlatched corridors, damp postcards, and titles that have already arrived. Perfect for dusk listening, porches after the heat, or sitting still while the next spool still waits.

Side A never changes to stop, opens doors until a room becomes a corridor, remixes Melody Day until it is handed back still humming, sits in the unfurnished space between, tunes a beautiful place out in the country from a congregation you were invited to, and arrives late to a videotape whose chorus has already been recorded. Side B launches Big Face like a boat, files a sensual woman under mercenary, wants you with the band waiting outside, cruises a street that only exists after the streetlights give up, interviews little fluffy clouds in a West Country accent, and puts a smile on a DJ’s face before keeping the change.
Overall mood: Warm, slightly nostalgic, and gently unfinished — full of souvenirs, velvet ropes left on the floor, and last pages that knew they were last. Perfect for dusk drives, rooms that decide to be corridors, or sitting still while the next spool still waits

Now imagine each episode as a colossal rotating stage — a great mechanical blooming lotus. You, the audience only ever glimpse a sliver of it at a time. Every artist is allotted the exact time it takes them to perform their piece. Then they rotate out of view, and the next act glides in. The stage spins at whatever speed the track demands.
The names of the artists and labels I’ll mention before each set — or “side,” as the cassette alchemists call them. Six little incantations per set, plus a general mist of what mood to expect.
Now the stage begins to turn.

Side A gathers moss on a lotus that has not officially opened, parks Sol in the cat’s window, breaks Kerala dawn against industrial dusk, coils organisms above the weather, circumnavigates on a borrowed lighthouse, and smears 1982 until the hair still looks like a forecast. Side B lives in the umbra that remembers what cast it, opens water with no coastline drawn on it, retires speech for the evening, keeps a 2012 hold tone wearing pearls, jams Golden Acres until the punchline clocks out, and packs IDM for a journey only a shadow completes.
Overall mood: Contemplative, prismatic, and quietly migratory — full of exclusive October light, borrowed signals, and harbour lamps left on anyway. Perfect for dusk listening, hold music that never connects, or sitting still while the next spool still waits.

On this episode you’ll hear Calgary, Alberta based Monroeville Music Center with a lovely nostalgic crackling piece from 2015 titled Parting Regrets from the name your price album Cave & Castle. Formerly available on cassette via Illuminated Paths.
Then Coventry, UK based artist Rich Johnson aka Visionary Lines sent me his latest haunted single The People’s City.
This will be followed by another UK based artist LoveKrafty and the also nostalgic track Sunflowers from the 2020 release Rainbow Drifter.
Then if I say Preston you’ll probably say Polypores. If you know Polypores then you’d probably not recognise this as being the same artist. I’ve chosen the track Foxes taken from his latest release Wildlife. It’s availabe on cassette through the Aural Canyon label.
After that we head to Italy and an artist who ended yesterdays episode Far away Nebraska with the drifting drone tones of a track titled It’s been a while since I’ve been here from the album Halfway from nowhere which is out on Seil Records sub-label Kordel Records.
Closing Side A is Tehran based Iranian artist Nahal Kavand and the lovely floating drones of the track Confusion from the album Echoes of a Fading Existence which is out on Lᴏɴᴛᴀɴᴏ Series which is the sub-label of rohs! records.

Welcome back, sonic travellers. Six tracks down. Six still waiting.
You’ll hear another artist I played yesterday. Italian artist Gino Fioravanti (Aglaia) with the longest entry in todays episode at 13:50 titled Unicorn from their latest release Altitudes which is out on legenday Projekt Records.
After that we’ll head to my present city of resedence Stockholm and an older one from 2012 by Martin Herterich’s alter ego Sand Circles and the final track from his album Motor City, it’s also the shortest piece of the episode at 1:10 titled Summer Echoes II.
Then we find ourselves in Southsea, UK based artist swimming lesson. Now this is a super duper exclusive from a collective of absolutly wonderful souls that I’ve had the pleasure of knowing for a few years now. They’ve gotten together to form The Synthesis Co-Operative and the first release is out on the 4th of September and will be available on cassette, Minidisc and digital and will be accompanied with a 40 page zine. Preorders from 14th August. This swimming lesson track, is stunning, and is called Transistor Revolution. Other names on this first release which will go by the name The Synthesis Co-Op Volume One will include The Earl of Dean, Legacy Systems, HDRF, Scholars of the Peak, theMLFs, Visionary Lines, Warmfield and more.
Near the end we’re joined by another Projekt Records release by Kyiv, Ukraine artist Bohdan Stupak and the moving track horizon from the equally moving album a place in memories.
Finally, Paris, France based artist Philippe Deschamps together with Nathaniel James Goldblatt aka The Goodnight Project and the drifting track Liquid Illusions from the four track EP Maps of an Invisible World.
But first, a wonderfully weird track by Mensa Group International titled Southern Mauristemo Islands from the 2012 Album Split LP which is split with luxury elite and was released on the Ailanthus Recordings label.

Side A moves from lovers’ carvings and apple-sweet whimsy into fragile unravelling and sunny British humour. Side B settles into forest loops, nostalgic balconies, aching screams, Eno’s calm, and ends with graceful pressure.

Then, Lemon Jelly with “Nice Weather for Ducks” from the legendary 2002 album “Lost Horizons”. Released on XL Recordings
The penultimate track of the first side of the virtual cassette is by Funki Porcini and the final track from his 2002 classic Fast Asleep with an album cover that you’d think is AI created except that all the keys on the keyboards are in the right place and that it was created in 2002.
Finishing off the first half, Luke Sanger with a track I just love. That synth melody sends me afloat. It’s titled “Delusions of Chiral” and is from the 2023 album “Fool’s Fayre” which is out on the Frequency Domain label.
But first, Bibio with the beautiful guitar piece “Lovers’ Carvings” from the album anyone of you are wecome to gift me with a physical version of. The amazing 2009 “Ambivalence Avenue”. Out on Warp Records.

You’ll hear fruity flutes in the little ditty by Canadian artist Koushik and the track “Forest Loop” from the 2008 album “Out My Window”. Available on Stones Throw records.
This is followed by my favoutite foundation of two. Polly Hulse and Jez Butler better known as The Twelve Hour Foundation with the opening track from their latest adventure. This track is titled “Balconville” and is from the shiney new release “Expanded & Repurposed”.
After that the landmark electronic soul ballad “The Wilhelm Scream” by James Blake from his 2011 self titled debut album.
Then the penultimate track for today comes in the form of legendary ambient pioneer and producer Brian Eno with the track “Bottomliners” from the 2005 album “Another Day on Earth.
Finishing us off is the stand out track “Grace Under Pressure” an anthemic indie outing from Elbow from their 2003 album “Cast of Thousands”. Which is a reference to the ending of the song with thousands of Glastonbury goers making it onto the final album cut.

A groovy, cinematic, and eclectic journey blending indie folk introspection, global psychedelic funk, French electronic cool, post-rock elegance, and atmospheric psychedelia.
Side A cruises through cosmic weight, mechanical playfulness, and sun-drenched grooves. Side B percolates with jazzy structures, vaporous textures, and sleek professionalism before ending on a pointed, trippy note.

I’ve gone back to doing more podcast style episodes but I’ll do all the talking now in the intro as I’ve put a lot of love into making seamless segued mixes. There is just one break halfway through the episode to give the “virtual cassette” title a meaning. The shows are free for the first week and then go to my very few subscribers who get to enjoy the 260 episodes plus the 822 other shows whenever they like all for the price of… I actually don’t know what you can buy for 3 quid. It used to be a coffee.
This episode is inspired by the key of G minor and based on the amazing retro synth runs of “A Study In Vapors” by “Bluetech” from a release that’s in my top 5 of the year so far “Petite Constellations”.
Every tenth episode I do a best of show. So all these tracks have probably been featured by me over the years and have a special place, for me, in some way. On this episode you’ll be aurally pleasured by Berlin based legends To Rococo Rot with a track simply called “cars”. Originally released on the 1999 album “The Amateur View” which should be in everyone’s collection.
Naples based group Psyché grab our hips with “Cumbia Mahàre” from their debut Four Flies Records, self titled, 2023 release.
Then a trio that have infected me over the past few years, Khruangbin, here joined by the vocal stylings of Leon Bridges in the track “Chocolate Hills” from their 2022 EP Texas Moon.
After that Vincent Taeger aka Tiger Tigre together with, well, himself, in the track “Sport Mécanique” which takes me back to my childhood. My parents watch all sports on tv and this just puts me in that world of 80s sports jingles. It’s taken from the compilation album “ERR REC Library Vol.4 Physical Activity” from 2023.
Ending the A side is the Los Angeles, California based roots reggae infected Pachy García aka Pachyman and the track “Sunset Sound” from the album “The Return of…” released in 2021.
Starting off Side B with Vienna, Austria based synth maestro Dorian Concept and the track “Eigendynamik (Elevator Version)” from the 2020 album “The Jitters”.
Followed by my favourite Stockholm based artist of recent years Joel Danell better known as Sven Wunder. Here with the piece “Pop-Jazz Structures”. Every one of Joels tracks puts me in a happy space. This is from his 2023 album “Late Again”.
Then anyone who has followed the channel knows that I love odd time signatures and the track “Percolator” is in 5/8 and is by the one of a kind originals Stereolab. Taken from the 2025 album “Emperor Tomato Ketchup”.
This leads into the featured Seattle, Washington based, Evan Bartholomew, better known as, Bluetech track “A Study In Vapors”.
Then the penultimate piece for today comes in the form of one of my all time go to artists Air with the track “Les Professionnels” from their debut 1997 EP Premiers Symptômes.
Finishing us off is Salvia Plath aka RUN DMT with nostalgic samples over a hypnotic acoustic guitar line in the track “Money” from the 2009 album BONG VOYAGE.
But first, to set the vibe is New Zealand based folk tinged artist whose voice just grips me Aldous Harding with the song “Weight of the Planets” from her fantastic third album “Designer” from 2019.

This episode has a bunch of artists from releases on the driftworks and whitelabrecs compilations ‘This Burnished Land’ and ‘An Ambient Decade’. Also a couple of tracks from the wonderful Passed Recordings label who were nice enough to write a Substack post about me.
There has been a break in the Virtual Cassette Library series. The last one was a whole week ago since then I’ve been busy working on the Chord Confessions series. And please do send in your stories about a piece of music that has been pivotal in your life. You can record it yourself or I can tell it for you while promoting you and playing the most important music on the planet. A win, win, win concept. I’ve also done a couple of Krautrock inspired sets and a couple of Female artist sets celebrating International women’s day. AND, I’ve started a new idea of mixing story telling with DJ sets where I do a story based on the tracks in the set. All these while doing 5 part time jobs.
A shout out to my one new follower this week ‘Citizens of Sound’ who are a dynamic podcast production agency that brings shows to life with gravity, handling everything from conception and branding to editing, mastering, management, and distribution for creators seeking impactful audio storytelling. Unruly Disturbance – Winter Chorus (from The Ghost of Christmas Passed)
icicle voices overlap in the chimney throat, old tinsel ghosts harmonize with wind through cracked panes, memory frost blooming on the inside of eyelids, shivering carols no one saw.

Now from winter vibes direct to California beaches and funky indie pop joviality with Ginger Root – Neighbor from the album City Slicker
elevator soul hums through thin walls, city lights smear like lipstick on glass, who’s next door living my alternate Tuesdays, smooth keys slide under skin, pretending not to notice the shared vibes.

Asha Patera – The Light From Within from the album Ocean Compilation 2 out on the extremely prolific label Sounds for the Soul Records. A great label to get a track on if you want to get noticed.

That was Asha Patera with The Light From Within. Asha will also appear on my upcoming compilation Puzzles of the Psyche. There are still a few day left to send in a piece.

Next staying with the birds. I do miss my old mix show For The Birds where all the tracks featured birds. One beautiful day when some more of you subscribe I’ll bring it back. Anyway here’s another collaboration. This time Graham Seaman, Mosaicist and Noctilusense – Pastures Green from the album This Burnished Land available through the Driftworks label.
emerald blades bend under invisible feet, distant bell tone ripples through dew, mind wanders fence lines that aren’t there anymore, green green greener until the color swallows itself.

Next, to end the A side, we stay with whitelabrecs and An Ambient Decade. This is Mosaicist, Simon Hall, Neil McRoberts, Percolator and Marjorie Dawson with Jack from (au·tay·uh·row·uh) Aotearoa – Waiting For Rain.
dry earth cracks whisper upward, sky heavy with unshed silver, fingers trace dust on windowsill, clouds gather like forgotten promises, any second now the first drop.
B Side –
We open Side B with yet another collaboration. This time Israeli artists Nitai Hershkovits & Daniel Dor – Elsewhere – Found & Found. This is one of only two tracks available to listen to on the pre-order of the album which will be released on April 24. ‘Found & Found’ is their second outing together. Back in 2024 they released one of my favourite albums of that year ‘The Garden Suite’. What we hear here is promising.
