A dynamic, slightly nocturnal ambient and experimental journey through elephant rhythms, fractured breakbeats, quiet shade, and slowly fading stars.
Side A moves from South Indian folk-electronic dance and spare war circuits into darkstep fractures, live trio gravity, breath stuck in buffer, and compact chip energy. Side B opens across inland oceans and modular comfort, then rises through live fire, soul-deep space, red-kite aerials, and ends as the stars go out one by one.
Overall mood: Textured, restless, and quietly expansive — blending rhythmic intensity with reflective stillness and cosmic closure. Perfect for late-night listening, focused immersion, or following the slow turning of the tape.

An eclectic, atmospheric journey blending whimsical dawn grooves, northern flows, and ancient mystical energies.
Side A moves from sardine sunrises and titanium explorations into nodal precision, soft focus, and prime matter. Side B shifts through metropolitan gothic, leaping sorcery, seasonal transformation, and ancient tumuli.
Overall mood: Playful yet contemplative, warm, and mysterious with a mix of light whimsy and deeper resonance. Perfect for adventurous listening, golden-hour drives, or late-night immersion.

In this episode you’ll be aurally pleasured by unmistakeably Polish artist Marek Kwiatkowski,
An artists that has gone under the radar for years is the UK based Mark Ellery Griffiths. If you’re into vintage synths then dive into his vast name your price catalogue on Bandcamp. Mark gives us some brutalist electronica.
Another regular of the episodes is Rick Jones aka DARK FIDELITY HIFI with Orb flavoured Idm out on his sight and sound label. Also London based Rodrigo Passannantis’ latest I can’t seem to get enough of those soaring synth lines lately. From the Cyclical Dreams label.
Ivo Petrovs Mahorka label is almost always included. This time with quirky dub vibes from Mülheim, Germany based Record Of Tides.
The B side opens with the 27 minute track showing us what the Nord Modular G1 can do by Switzerland based Rupert Lally. This track would have made it onto an Expansive Waves episode but I’ve decided to discontinue those due to lack of motivation.
Clarinet based braindance from Berlin duo Meier & Erdmann.
Then Leeds based Ethiopian Jazz flavours from The Source on ATA records.
Then my friend Gavin Brick aka The Metamorph chills us out with live sci-fi injected ambient.
Ending episode 256 is the great combo of Drew Mulholland & Garden Gate with a haunted finale via Subexotic Records.
But setting the tape rolling today is an almost avant-garde Idm setting with Liryc303, here as, Cylander together with friend of the channel Fluffy Inside and their track Sardine Sunrise the Fluffy Inside’s Cloudy Dawn Mix. Available through the Neo Ouija label.
So settle in, turn it up a bit, and let’s see where it takes us. I hope you enjoy it.

Starting us off: a shimmering remix from Loopatronica, a brief suspended moment from Hi-Field, and Virtually J stepping out of the shadows with something quietly unsettling.

Next we drift into Darryl Wakelin’s Swimming Lesson in a playful library daydream, Loula Yorke and Charlotte Jolly weaving something ancient and watery, and James Osland reminding us how everything starts from almost nothing.

Now the air gets heavier and more fragile: Sleep Chrysalis letting dreams fade, Scholars of the Peak dredging up sparkles from the deep, and Clariloops opening something very gently.

We cross into field recordings and memory: Ana Habesh calling from Vanuatu, Then we flip the virtual cassette and find willowlaun dropping the ultimate New Zealand ambient pop moment, and Hverheij stepping into the realm of outside possibilities.

The Polish legend of Coconut Creek, Caught in Joy closes Side A with Elsewhere.
Karol is the most prolific Berlin school artist on the planet. He produces so much quality music on a weekly basis. Which he records live and can be witnessed on his Youtube channel. Analogue drooling adventures. The track Elsewhere is from the release Colorfield. Self released back in mid December. Karol has released 4 albums since then just for some perspective. This is Analogue coloured space drifts to close out the first side of the show.

Francesca Guccione offers Mechanical Promenade from Connected 3 on IUWE Records. Mechanical rhythms promenade alongside delicate electric piano, a poised mechanical dance. Komodo Kolektif follow with Disciple Of The Drone (GK Machine Disciple Of The Dub) also from that Voyager Dubs compilation on Invisible, Inc. Drone devotion meets dub disciple rites, heavy and hypnotic. Invisible, Inc. is a label I wish I could play more of on the channel, and just can’t for financial reasons. They are great so if you can grab some of their beautiful physical releases.

Just the music, rolling on like a festival stage that turns—one act fading, another coming into view.” This episode has an exclusive track Karesansui by Wellington, New Zealand based artist CZiGO. Karesansui means “dry landscape” or “dry mountain water” and refers to a minimalist style of Japanese garden that uses rocks, gravel, and sand to represent natural landscapes like mountains, islands, and rivers without any water. These gardens, often found in Zen Buddhist temples, are designed for contemplation and meditation, symbolizing natural elements through careful arrangement and raked gravel patterns that mimic water. Karesansui is from the upcoming album Techno Feudal which drops December 12 on Machine Records.

Welcome, sonic wanderers. You’ve arrived at Episode 140 of The Virtual Cassette Library.

Trunk Stubbed Wiser is the episodes subtitle, as well as the track you’re hearing in the background and it’s geographical location which I’ve filmed and can be experienced on YouTube.

I’m Trevor and I curate these 90-minute genre bending drifts through frequencies from around the globe. No commentary. No interruptions. Just pure sonic immersion. Two, 45 minute mixes, 15 tracks per side with a side change in the middle.

Picture the listening experience like being at a music festival where the artists play on a rotating stage. Each act is allotted time for their piece and as it ends the next act takes over rotating into view.

Styles for this episode range from ambient to post-rock, from eurorack modular to folk. The musical keys in focus are F sharp major D flat major and D sharp minor, E flat minor.
