Good day, listeners… or should I say, travellers of the tape. Trevor here. You’ve pressed play on another Virtual Cassette Library. Twelve-track virtual cassettes that flips themselves at the halfway mark.
If you make music, or run a label, and fancy a place in the library, send your links or Bandcamp codes to trevlad@gmail.com. I read every one. Promise.
The shows remain free for the first week, then slip quietly into the hands of my Mixcloud subscribers, who currently have over eleven hundred other episodes waiting for them whenever the mood strikes. Subscribers also receive the expanding series of 3-hour adventures titled Veil Frequencies.
Now imagine each episode as a colossal rotating stage — a great mechanical blooming lotus. You, the audience only ever glimpse a sliver of it at a time. Every artist is allotted the exact time it takes them to perform their piece. Then they rotate out of view, and the next act glides in. The stage spins at whatever speed the track demands. The names of the artists and labels I’ll mention before each set — or “side,” as the cassette alchemists call them. Six little incantations per set, plus a general mist of what mood to expect. Now the stage begins to turn.
A luminous, slightly forensic ambient journey through corridors of evidence, papery lanterns, and planets that have not finished burning. Side A opens an investigation the cameras invent as they roll, then cracks a cosmic oval, grows emerald armour between patio bricks, combs strings into sand that will not stay, squeezes two minutes of smear-test whimsy, and ends on a wind prayer written for people and cats.
Side B walks dry iron valleys toward utopian lullabies, cuts others from the seventh gemstone tray, argues a Messiah into demo clothes, wires splendour so slowly it can curve, refuses to hurry its illusions, and keeps Batov’s ten-year sun turning with all it can do. Overall mood: Contemplative, analog, and quietly jewelled — full of evidence the ghost leaves behind, sand still deciding, and light that knows which pocket it came from. Perfect for late listening, slow wiring, or sitting with the corridor while the next spool still waits.

Good day, listeners… or should I say, travellers of the tape. Trevor here. You’ve pressed play on another fragile spool of the Virtual Cassette Library. Twelve-track virtual cassettes that flips themselves at the halfway mark.
If you make music, or run a label, and fancy a place in the library, send your links or Bandcamp codes to trevlad@gmail.com. I read every one. Promise. Tips and subscriptions keep the reels turning. Every little helps the library stay open after dark. A seasonal, slightly restless ambient journey through summer heat, stored sequences, and coastal gaps. Side A opens in Indiana solstice light and green energy, then moves through overloaded London rooms, shifting Quiet Figures, 1980s earthshine slowness, and warped inner-weather shelves. Side B holds Mediterranean headland water, rusty robot dreams, Mersey light, Tokyo sequences from some other time, a choked dub-techno pulse, and ends at Hope Gap under Ravilious colours. Overall mood: Warm, nostalgic, and quietly unstable — full of stored time, coastal air, and communities hanging together. Perfect for late-summer listening, train windows, or sitting with what the season still holds.
The shows remain free for the first week, then slip quietly into the hands of my Mixcloud subscribers, who currently have over eleven hundred other episodes waiting for them whenever the mood strikes. Subscribers receive the expanding series of 3-hour adventures titled Veil Frequencies. They also get the ever-growing advance version of the forthcoming compilation Quiet Figures.
The tape unspools its visions.
00:00:00 odd person – all skeletons come from indiana odd person – all skeletons come from indiana. Solstice heat marks part two of four seasons. Spirit faces south at zenith. The sun arrives in recorded summer light. 00:04:11 Rai Mondo – Green Energy Rai Mondo – Green Energy. Austrian grandeur opens into fusion and progressive colour on Art Form 5. FORM@ gathers submissions into one shared compilation breath. 00:09:50 The Both And – we have this The Both And – we have this. Programmable systems meet live intervention. Edges overload and new rooms appear. Communities of musicians and workers hang together in London rooms. 00:14:26 philippe neau – payysages.mouvements. philippe neau – payysages.mouvements. Quiet Figures gather as nobodiosundz drift through shifting terrain. 00:17:55 Erik Wøllo – Fast and Slow Erik Wøllo – Fast and Slow. Earthshine lights the unseen face. Four-track and eight-track machines return 1980s slowness. Drones and sequencer pulses rise and subside across twenty short crossings. 00:20:56 SPTW – Shelves SPTW – Shelves. Warped loops, liquefied vocals and analog tape textures sit beside pencils, desks and bottles. Two collagists keep their heads above water in a time-capsule of inner weather.
The cassette reaches its midpoint and turns.
00:23:21 Neglect – Cap De Creus (original mix) Neglect – Cap De Creus (original mix). Headland light and Mediterranean water hold the coast. 00:29:16 Autonomaton – Rusty robots dream Autonomaton – Rusty robots dream. Collected work from 2015 to 2025 moves from noise and drone toward fluffy ambient, then into dub and breakz. Hardware and computer share the same long sleep. 00:33:04 autumna – helen and her cousin autumna – helen and her cousin. Capstone festival days give way to quieter corners. Light over the Mersey and street sound set the pace. 00:36:41 Nekomachi – Some Other Time Nekomachi – Some Other Time. Fifteen years of stored sequences run through effects and samples in Tokyo rooms, no DAW required. 00:38:09 Yunze Ou – Choke Array Yunze Ou – Choke Array. One hundred and seventy BPM carries dub-techno depth and halftime pulse. Ableton layers expand the loop into personal language. 00:42:23 Gilroy Mere – Hope Gap Gilroy Mere – Hope Gap. Forty-mile train journeys from St Leonard’s feed laptop sketches. Ravilious colours become texture and tempo. Clarinet, flute, trumpet and voice join the laundry-studio air.
The visions complete their circle. The oxide continues its quiet journey until the end of the spool.
Also in the works: the next compilation, Quiet Figures, release date 26 September. Uncover the narratives whispered by the silent, ever-present figures that shadow us, through compositions that unravel their hidden mysteries. Does that stir anything? Send entries to trevlad@gmail.com Include artist name, track name, and a link to other work. Deadline: 24 September.
