Trev’s Virtual Cassette Library 341

Another reel of the Virtual Cassette Library begins. Twelve tracks, two sides. A virtual cassette that turns itself at the halfway mark, the oxide catching just long enough to mark the seam before the second side continues.
These are not playlists. Each episode is structured as a pair of continuous sets: six tracks on each side, mixed and stitched so the joins sit almost inside the grain. The sequence is the form.

The episodes remain free for the first week. After that they move into the Mixcloud subscriber archive. Subscribers also receive Veil Frequencies, the ongoing series of three-hour transmissions—extended traversals rather than selections, moving through a curtain of sound that occasionally seems to register the listener in return.

A sweep beneath the trees, then a nowhere that sometimes falls from the sky.
Side A softens the broom so the trees can listen, warms a Redford in sheepskin already filed in the library archive, perfects the spelling of a church of gadzooks over a wistful abyss, decides the duration forever with the tenderness already in place, colours the black mud with rainbow noise that is already kind, and hangs the pictures so the calm after the storm can arrive. Side B drops placid under red stars, shares southern lands with the three already south, keeps a secret jungle private with the rivers already quiet, lets go of something with the place already named in the letting, speaks the magical combination of words so everything is ok forever, and receives a nowhere that falls from a generous sky.
Overall mood: Tender, and quietly decided — full of soft brooms, open archives, and words that settle everything. Perfect for dusk listening, quiet rivers, or sitting still while the next spool still waits.

Hello there, listeners. It’s me. Trevor.

You’ve pressed play on another Virtual Cassette Library. Twelve tracks. Two sides. A little plastic ghost that flips itself at the halfway mark, like a polite pancake.

The shows stay free for the first week, wandering about with their shoelaces undone. After that they slip quietly into the hands of my Mixcloud subscribers, who currently have over eleven hundred other episodes waiting for them whenever the mood strikes, which in my experience is usually Tuesdays, or during eclipses, or when the kettle boils. Subscribers also receive the expanding series of three-hour adventures titled Veil Frequencies, which is less a mixtape and more a long walk through a curtain that may be sentient.

Now. Each of these episodes is a two-part outing, just like the classic cassette. Unlike mixtapes or playlists, these two sides are curated as proper DJ sets, six tracks segued into one continuous mix, stitched together so carefully you can barely see the thread. Unless you look.

Side A lets DFAM talk to itself in initials, tucks the years 2020 to 2025 in for a good slumber, leaves one clean loop as evidence of the skirting-board citizens, spreads the map until the room feels larger than the house, holds the apex a moment longer on a second thought, and dusts the relic room with the lights kindly low. Side B tells the myth a second time until it learns to sit still, meets a noble gas so quiet it needs two speakers, arrives at a place that is now and here at once, holds the sky with a shared backache, lets the starlings turn colour into a day, and keeps Liverpool salt and gold in the same pocket.
Overall mood: Warm, slightly archival, and quietly luminous — full of second thoughts, low lights, and titles that are also locations. Perfect for dusk listening, houses larger than their maps, or sitting still while the next spool still waits.

Good evening, or morning, or whatever sliver of the clock you’ve washed up in. This is Trev’s Virtual Cassette Library, episode one hundred and seventy-four. I’m Trevor, turning the reels in the half-light, playing custodian to these sounds that drift in from places most folk never bother to tune toward.

I’d describe this as Textured ambient with a glitch undercurrent, dub-like pulses buried in meditative marshland haze, a quiet hope threading through the sadness.

Then Asheville, North Carolinas Spooqs brings the shortest track of the episode clocking in a 2:27 with Lyskae, The Fissure – Biomes. Cinematic electroacoustic soundscapes, a pilgrimage mapped in melody across dunes and into salt water, landscapes that remember your footprints.

CV Vision follows with The Jam – Bureau B 2025 – Bureau B. A slice from the label’s latest roundup, electronics carrying that Hamburg lineage of krautrock echoes and avant-garde restraint.

The longest offering this round at 6:53 Resonating With Life offers Spinning Out of The Skies – Resonating With Life – Cyclical Dreams. Drone and ambient suspended in slow rotation, skies that keep unfolding long after you’ve looked away.

Lorna Dune with Perseids – Sequential Dreaming. Another great release from Mystery Circles. Meteor trails across dreaming sequences, streaking light in the dark.
