You’ve pressed play on another Virtual Cassette Library. Twelve tracks. Two sides. A little plastic ghost that flips itself at the halfway mark, like a polite pancake.
If you make music, or you run a label, or you simply own a shed full of strange noises and would like them filed somewhere warm, send your links or Bandcamp codes to trevlad@gmail.com. I read every one. Promise.
The shows stay free for the first week. After that they slip quietly into the hands of my Mixcloud subscribers. Subscribers also receive the expanding series of three-hour adventures titled Veil Frequencies, which is less a mixtape and more a long walk through a curtain that may be sentient.
Now. Each of these episodes is a two-part outing, just like the classic cassette. Unlike mixtapes or playlists, these two sides are curated as proper DJ sets, six tracks segued into one continuous mix, stitched together so carefully you can barely see the thread.
I hope you enjoy the adventure. Mind the flip.
An adventure for the one who must be obeyed, then a sky watched in company. Side A keeps Haggard’s flame warm in the sequence, reaches the pole with the radio still crackling from the ice, folds the shroud so the outline remains kind, pours a small aperitif before the meal, finds the empire still in the foundations under the roads, and leaves temptation numbered among sixty-four fluxes on the table for you to look. Side B keeps the past still sitting in the chair, grazes elk on a coastal flat with the window open, shares a long look from the mezze table, projects a holographic father already solid and familiar, lets the hearts decide on forever with the pulse steady, and watches the weight of the night sky together while the desert holds both of you. Overall mood: Mythic, and quietly shared — full of open windows, warm maps, and skies that prefer company. Perfect for dusk listening, coastal flats, or sitting still while the next spool still waits.
Side A Mood mist: an adventure for the one who must be obeyed, an admiral at the pole, a shroud folded in an elegy, an aperitif for the young, an empire still in the foundations, a temptation numbered among sixty-four fluxes.
Side B Mood mist: a past still in the room, elk on a coastal flat, an eye from the mezze table, a holographic father, hearts that prefer the long duration, a sky watched in company.

A voice returning after the cold months, then fortunes drifting offshore. Side A stitches the voice back into the static once the winter has stepped aside, marks a path home through ruins on a planet whose stars are crashing, keeps the balance beyond words, dreams the future into the present on a planet of seers, ties the bionic score against the snowsuit and is happy about it, and walks the dream-road to a city that lives only in sleep. Side B lets the corridors forget the year while still holding the echo, keeps the smallest particle that binds a universe, holds the question of consciousness with arms still raised, draws one line from an unknown source enough to hold the page, lets animals arrive politely from the sky, and drops the coins still turning into water already waiting. Overall mood: Mythic, and quietly open — full of detuned lullabies, unfinished questions, and roads that still accept entries. Perfect for dusk listening, silent rooms, or sitting still while the next spool still waits.

A system number left on a faded sign, then a horizon the colour of the title. Side A leaves the lettering still readable if you stand at the right angle, remixes ladders through a Sussex exchange with the rungs already warm, keeps the amniotic membrane grateful for the quiet, lets dust remember the sea just close enough for a little silt, edits a nomad for a decade of Batov still open in the stacks, and lets the dub smoulder so the ember does the work of the flame. Side B reconnects a piano and a vibraphone after thirty years with the conversation still open, holds the tunnel’s echo of the last train and the next that may yet come, lets the ornamental letter arrive with its loops intact, teaches seagulls the steps while the shoreline keeps time, keeps a Toronto live tape warm from the floor with the imperfections as the point, and stays where the sky decides to stay. Overall mood: Slightly archival, and quietly warm — full of faded signs, open conversations, and horizons that know their own colour. Perfect for dusk listening, abandoned locations still holding sound, or sitting still while the next spool still waits.

A harbour drawn in soft pencil, then a cloud school ringing a horn of greeting. Side A keeps the seaweed’s appointment with the tide, still feels the earth turn under autumn leaves, dwells in holds large enough to stay, leaves an uncatalogued card in the drawer on purpose, lets silent water hold its breath so you can hear the room, and insists the clock has already spoken. Side B prefers the present tense inside a mutual blur, arrives as “we” with the nights already longer, receives a sincere note from the mothership, pauses between acts with the curtain half-raised, clips the verbs of quiet figures so the meaning stays intact, and lets the low cloud say hello in its own register. Overall mood: Slightly seasonal, and quietly precise — full of soft harbours, open scores, and sentences shortened but still whole. Perfect for dusk listening, houses that are still listening, or sitting still while the next spool still waits.
Side A Mood mist: a harbour drawn in soft pencil, an earth still turning under autumn, holds large enough to dwell in, a card left out of the catalogue, water that keeps its counsel, a clock that insists on the hour.

A sundial turned inward, then a boat named in two languages. Side A writes its hours in a Canadian winter while the light inside learns to keep its own, holds the shape of callers who have already left, leaves a glimmer on for the night, lets the ocean breathe along the path, builds architecture that knows its own duration and still stands, and rearranges the light so it remains in the living room. Side B follows the grey sea whose fog already knows the way, crosses a forest at funk speed in under a minute, walks an old earthwork in a hidden kingdom still open for entries, listens to an Estonian runway listening back, switches on the first light of a galactic passenger, and names the boat once on each side of the hull. Overall mood: Contemplative, slightly seasonal, and quietly luminous — full of little lights left on, temporary buildings, and seas that already know the way. Perfect for dusk listening, houses with a curse, or sitting still while the next spool still waits.

A pearl filed under ocean, then a periphery that still has a centre. Side A keeps the grit and the glow in the same shell, lets the resonant field keep answering after the question has sat down, finds time for a blue event on the fast lane, sets an extra place for a postcard from the future, prefers the slow lane for recovery, and measures restraint in sixty-four fluxes content to hold still. Side B files the spirit of gravity with the soil, deepens into the moment before the moment, drifts with Berlin-school manners since the late seventies, walks a quiet figure down to the reservoir, counts time by the stars, and holds the rim so the centre can rest. Overall mood: Contemplative, slightly cosmic, and quietly patient — full of unlatched doors, extra places, and clocks the stars prefer. Perfect for dusk listening, fields still ringing, or sitting still while the next spool still waits.

Good day, listeners… or should I say, travellers of the tape. Trevor here. You’ve pressed play on another fragile spool of the Virtual Cassette Library. Episode 286. Twelve-track virtual cassettes that flips themselves at the halfway mark.
If you make music, or run a label, and fancy a place in the library, send your links or Bandcamp codes to trevlad@gmail.com. I read every one. Promise. Tips and subscriptions keep the reels turning. Every little helps the library stay open after dark. A tender, slightly wondrous ambient journey through closed-eye geometries, night markets, living systems, and working-class fanfares. Side A rearranges itself behind the eyelids, then drifts through Toronto lanterns, cello architecture, space-IDM bloom, pre-language fingertips, and a well of the world. Side B opens with Ramsgate vocal collage and gentle signs, holds the line, raises a fanfare for the working man, conjures pagan stones among the Weaver Hills, and ends with a star-song demo from the cliff top. Overall mood: Warm, curious, and quietly celebratory — mixing intimate care, city-night haze, and nostalgic industrial glow. Perfect for late evenings, headphones, or sitting still while things change behind closed eyes.
The shows remain free for the first week, then slip quietly into the hands of my Mixcloud subscribers, who currently have 1,117 other episodes waiting for them whenever the mood strikes. Side A moves from kinetic speed machines and diary entries into monolithic atmospheres, cherry-sweet narratives, and limbic depths. Side B shifts through soapworks hauntology, glass colours, ticking pianos, translucent synths, and ends on questions of reception and what comes next. Overall mood: Contemplative yet playful, with a mix of intimacy, nostalgia, and quiet curiosity. Perfect for focused listening, late-afternoon drives, or evening immersion. I’ll introduce Side A now. Side B will wait for the intermission, as is tradition. The shows remain free for the first week, then slip quietly into the hands of my Mixcloud subscribers, who currently have 1,098 other episodes waiting for them whenever the mood strikes. Subscribers also receive the expanding series Veil Frequencies, recorded floor-by-floor inside the 24 buildings of a place called the Resonant Veil Enclave. They also get the ever-growing advance version of the forthcoming compilation Quiet Figures. Side A On this episode you’ll hear Paris-based artist Stéphane Laporte, better known as DOMOTIC, and a track from an album I’ve been spinning a lot since its release. The album is Fourrure Sounds Vol. 3 to 6, and the track is “Bolide” (which translates as “Speed Machine”). It’s one of my favourite releases this year, and the 36-track cassette version is available through Astra Solaria Recordings. Staying in France, we have artist and label curator Richard Francés with “12 Décembre 2024” from the album Afterwork III (Février 2024), out on his own Hylé Tapes — where you can still grab one of the five remaining cassettes. Next, another Hylé Tapes artist, this time Tokyo-based Raphael Leray, with “Akurah” from the 2015 release MONOLITH. Then something a little different: Salt Lake City singer-songwriter and indietronica artist Josaleigh Pollett, with her captivating storytelling on “Cherry” from the latest album If I Let It Quiet. We’re back on Hylé Tapes for the title track from the 2024 album Biodiverse by the trio Biodiverse, Anee Molly & Canblaster. Closing Side A is my Glaswegian mate Fragile X with “Limbic” from the 2021 album Hive (previously featured on the Trip FM compilation Blue Shift). But first, to set the vibe, DOMOTIC with “Bolide”. Now settle in. Turn it up just a little. Let’s see where the tape takes us. One side flip. Just the music. Side B Welcome back, sonic travellers. Six tracks down. Six still waiting. You’ll hear another track by Glass Roots from the 2020 album The Idiot — an older Triplicate Records release I’ve been revisiting lately (and all their older material is name-your-price, which is where my broke self tends to hang out). This is “Reds Blue”. Then back to France for Mea Poulpa and the wonderful piano-based (dare I say almost trip-hop) piece “Clock” from the album Beyond Glass, out on Camembert Électrique. Next we head to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and BVSMV (co-founder of Triplicate Records) with the 2017 synthwave track “Translucent” from the album Skies, available via Cardiff’s TimeSlave Recordings among other places. Near the end we’re treated to an exclusive from the forthcoming compilation The Synthesis Co-Op Volume One — an amazing collective of artists, many of whom have appeared on this channel over the years (The Earl of Dean, Pulsliebhaber, HDRF, Swimming Lesson, Visionary Lines and more). The compilation drops 4 September. Go follow tscoop.bandcamp.com to stay in the know. Here is “Are You Receiving Us?” by the always delightful Drew Huddart, aka Scholars of the Peak. And finally we travel to Buenos Aires for Aughflair and the 2017 piece “What Comes Next” from the album Rewritten, also available via the presently defunct Triplicate side-label Mangled Music Co. But first, our friend Paul Broome, better known as Warmfield, with a track from the Woodford Halse compilation Undulating Waters 10. Warmfield has contributed to my first two compilations and also appears on the new Synthesis Co-Op Volume One (which isn’t out yet but is already stunning). This is “Waterton vs Walton Soapworks”. Enjoy…
