You’ve pressed play on another Virtual Cassette Library. Twelve tracks. Two sides. A little plastic ghost that flips itself at the halfway mark, like a polite pancake.
If you make music, or you run a label, or you simply own a shed full of strange noises and would like them filed somewhere warm, send your links or Bandcamp codes to trevlad@gmail.com. I read every one. Promise. I read them with both eyes and, on special occasions, a third one.
The shows stay free for the first week, wandering about with their shoelaces undone. After that they slip quietly into the hands of my Mixcloud subscribers, who currently have over eleven hundred other episodes waiting for them whenever the mood strikes, which in my experience is usually Tuesdays, or during eclipses, or when the kettle boils. Subscribers also receive the expanding series of three-hour adventures titled Veil Frequencies, which is less a mixtape and more a long walk through a curtain that may be sentient.
Now. Each of these episodes is a two-set outing, just like the classic cassette. Unlike mixtapes or playlists, these two sides are curated as proper DJ sets, six tracks segued into one continuous mix, stitched together so carefully you can barely see the thread. Unless you look. Don’t look.
I hope you enjoy the adventure. Mind the flip.
A clock that insists the world is already the argument, then a house that hums because it was cursed to. Side A opens the door unlatched on a cuckoo that has already said what it came to say, builds a choir from stones that will not give the words, fidgets in Latin for a sound that will not sit still, files tears under ocean and returns the glass, sets a plate for a love that left no chair pushed in, and steps into a puddle that learned to be a room. Side B runs a rite hotter than the room agreed to, cuts a faun from the seventh tray of stones, reaches the far point of an orbit, refuses a capital letter for nights that would rather not be introduced, walks the last few steps into silence, and keeps the hymn book and the haunting on the same shelf. Overall mood: Contemplative, slightly haunted, and quietly ritual — full of unlatched doors, lowercase dreams, and sanctuaries that sing whether you asked or not. Perfect for dusk listening, houses with a curse, or sitting still while the ripples never quite reach the edge.
Mood mist: a clock that insists the world is already the argument, a choir built from stones, Latin for a sound that will not sit still, tears filed under ocean, a love that left its plate, a puddle that learned to be a room.

This has been The Virtual Cassette Library, episode 319. Travel safely between the frequencies. I’ll meet you on the other side of the next spool.
Good day, listeners… or should I say, travellers of the tape. Trevor here. You’ve pressed play on another Virtual Cassette Library. Twelve-track virtual cassettes that flips themselves at the halfway mark.
If you make music, or run a label, and fancy a place in the library, send your links or Bandcamp codes to trevlad@gmail.com. I read every one. Promise. Tips and subscriptions keep the reels turning. Every little helps the library stay open after dark.
A cliffside, slightly occult ambient journey through spirit bridges, distant evenings, and questions that keep answering themselves. Side A opens among Provo cliffdwellers and castle waters, then dreams through 808 notebook sequences, sits with Scottish-Swedish darkness, tunes the senses to E.S.P., and holds surface tension across Passed Oceans. Side B begins a mysterious Mechanicus chapter, places the world at your feet for Phantom’s centenary, spices the reel with French library flute and Leipzig afrobeat, flashes a fourteen-second miniature, and ends decaying underwater — however oceanic of you. Overall mood: Contemplative, faintly eerie, and quietly playful — full of exclusive darkness, compilation water, and short surprises after the flip. Perfect for late listening, sitting with the unexplained, or letting the tape keep asking while the ocean answers.
The shows remain free for the first week, then slip quietly into the hands of my Mixcloud subscribers, who currently have over eleven hundred other episodes waiting for them whenever the mood strikes. Subscribers receive the expanding series of 3-hour adventures titled Veil Frequencies. They also get the ever-growing advance version of the forthcoming compilation Quiet Figures.
The tape unspools its visions.
00:02:21 spaceseer – Cliffdwellers I start with an apology to the artist EBlo who in the last episode I mixed up with an artist of the same name. EBlo is in fact based in Malmö, Sweden and not the US. Also a shout out to the wonderful aeon who not only is one of my only subscribers but also left a comment on a show a while back and asked me to do an episode of his amazing CAMP radio monthly series Fragments. Opening this episode with a piece from the new compilation album Gemstones VII out on Cyclical Dreams that Record label focused on Berlin School, Ambient, Soundscape, Space Music, Drone, and electronic music. Provo, Utah based spaceseerer who’s described themselves as doom-synth and dark ambient. 00:07:20 Klaus Wolfe – Castle Waters – Spirit Bridge This is followed by another track from the same Cyclical Dreams compilation. Klaus Wolfe is the only artist that has released work on The Dream Journal Institute label that seems to actually exist anywhere else 00:12:20 Akira Film Script – Dream from the album Holo which is released on Ethereal Projector which is a sub label of Ambient Cat which in turn is a sub label of Chitra Records or something like that. Ryan Watts. 808, Bass Station II and 303 from 2018, a daughter’s number sequences in the notebook. Hiroshi Watanabe masters. Meaghan Watts covers. 00:17:11 Euan Alexander Millar-McMeeken & Henrik Meierkord – The Evening Seems So Distant The first exclusive track today comes from this Scottish Swedish collaboration. From the album Darkness Is Just Darkness which will be released on September 22 on the Audiobulb label. Synths, drones and cello. Spoken passages sit inside the music. Darkness as a state to sit with. 00:22:39 The British Stereo Collective – E.S.P. The penultimate track of side A and an aboloute legend of the synth world. From the self released album TeleKinesis The trilogy that began with ExoGenesis and continued with ProtoSynthesis now concludes with TeleKinesis: a journey through the mind and the senses; through consciousness and altered states. 00:24:11 Trees Can Talk – Surface Tension The final track of side A and the longest piece on the episode at 7:51. From that must have new Passed Recording compilation Passed Oceans. Classical instruments, punk years, electronica as therapy. Half of sales to Doctors Without Borders.
After that the cassette reaches its midpoint and flips.
00:31:25 Adeptus Mechanicus – A new mysterious Beginning We open with annother long track of the episode at 7:42 from two compilation albums recently released. First the whopping 53 track name your price album Summoning 4 out on Hull, UK based Netlabel for sounds of horror, the occult and the unexplained “Dittany of Crete” and also on channel supporting Argentinian label Cyclical Dreams stunning Gemstones VII. Adeptus Mechanicus is Dutch noise, dark space ambient and sound art. 00:39:06 Andrew Wasylyk & Tommy Perman – I Placed The World At Your Feet #2 The second exclusive track of the episode and a shorter one at 1:42. From the album House with a Curse which releases October 16 on one of our favorite labels Clay Pipe Music. I love when these two get together. Shout out to Tommy for sending me this. Score for the 1925 Phantom of the Opera centenary. Cinema screenings across the UK and Ireland. 00:40:25 Bolbec – À L’instar Du Flair And now for something very different with some French floating flute library just to spice it up a bit. From yet another wonderful compilation album on the fantastic Batov Records label titled Around The Sun. Batov Records celebrates ten years with a landmark compilation Imaginary soundtrack beside Piccioni and Legrand. DJ Kobayashi selects. November 6. 00:42:44 Sandman Project – Questions Answers Staying on Batov Records. Leipzig, Germany based afrobeat from the album, Hearts Forever. releases October 23, 2026. Tal Sandman. Desert-rock guitar and brass call-and-response. Golden Rules Studio. 00:47:07 ndrw cnry – Probably should have got the hang of this by now Now, probably the shortest track I’ve ever had on the show clocking in at just 14 seconds. From the self released album A Certain Distance. Miniature flashes. Photographs in the download. 00:48:35 Stewart Keller – How Oceanic Of You This one confused me. I have it in my collection as being titled How Oceanic Of You but on the EP it’s called Ambient Calm. Anyway it’s from SHRIMP GAME: OVERKRILL OST (Contributions). Stewarts individual contributions to the SHRIMP GAME: OVERKRILL OST. Decaying underwater world. CorrodedParadox artwork.
The visions complete their circle. The oxide continues its quiet journey until the end of the spool.
Also in the works: the next compilation, Quiet Figures, release date 26 September. “Hello, Trevor here, and this is episode one‑six‑three of the Virtual Cassette Library. Today’s theme is Vent Making Diverts—which, as usual, is both the track you’re hearing underneath and a location you can find on a map, if you’re the sort who enjoys chasing coordinates on What3Words. We’ve got ninety minutes ahead—two sides, fifteen tracks each. Some names you’ll know, some you won’t, and that’s half the fun. On the A side there’s an unreleased track by myself which can only be heard here—so if you’re collecting the oddities and outliers, this one’s for you. On the B side, we’ve got an exclusive from Mist Signals—Someday Soon—taken from the upcoming Whitelabrecs compilation Sleeplaboratory6.0, which drops on the 17th of January to celebrate the label’s tenth anniversary. A decade of quiet experiments, soft-focus soundscapes, and late-night headphone magic. Now then, starting back on episode 156, there’s a little cipher game running through the series. Each episode, during the intermission, you’ll hear a number. Scribble it down. After ten episodes, you’ll have the full sequence. Put the pieces together, crack the cipher, and you’ll unlock a code that knocks ninety‑five percent off anything on my Bandcamp page. Which means you can scoop up the whole discography for about two quid. It’s not meant to be difficult—just enough to keep you awake at night wondering if you’ll get it right. The rest of the show drifts through funk, Idm, ambient drift, modular murmurs, rare views, puddles, mythology, and the occasional monkey. The sort of thing you might stumble across late at night on a shortwave dial, wondering if you imagined it. So—headphones on, let time dissolve, and let the music claim you.”
Evening all. Episode one-four-nine of the Virtual Cassette Library. Subtitled Window Invented Drain. That’s the track you can hear underneath, and it’s also a location you can find on a map. I filmed it—it’s up on YouTube if you’re curious. I’m Trevor. Ninety minutes here, two virtual sides, forty-five minutes each. Fifteen tracks per set. No chatter, no interruptions. The music rolls on like a festival stage that turns—one act fading, another coming into view. Tonight you’ll hear an exclusive from Paul Beaudoin with Ümlaut. Also music from Bruno Bavota, Wil Bolton, and a track that has disappeared from a release by The Form Group. Later on, another exclusive from Foster Neville. Rival Consoles, Erik Wøllo, and dogs versus shadows are in the mix. Plus a track by zerosummer which I can’t seem to locate—drop a comment if you know. Labels like whitelabrecs, Mahorka, and Third Kind Records are part of the current orbit, each one feeding into this library of sound. If you’d like to be part of these missions, send your work to trevlad@gmail.com. Track links are at trevor.se, and marked in the Mixcloud timeline. The eighth TVCL album is on Bandcamp for pre-order—it drops when we hit sixteen tracks. The second compilation, Resonances from the Depths, is under construction—get involved, send in your damp entries. Every comment, every like, every subscription keeps the frequencies flowing. So—headphones on, let time dissolve, and let the music claim you.

It’s a farewell—but not a quiet one. Vocals from Morgan, Tommy, Fernanda González, Juan Cordova, and Juan Pablo Ortíz rise like mist from the undergrowth, weaving through classical guitar and delicate electronics. Born in the mist forests of Valle de Bravo, Mexico, this track mourns the loss of fireflies, birds, crickets, and the endangered Abronias—small, dragon-like reptiles now on the red list. But it also carries hope. A call to listen. A call to act. The full album releases July 18, 2025. This one’s for the dragons. 🔁 Virtual B-Side Exclusive: “^We Dance” by vx/hope 🎧 From the upcoming album the hungry will always choose a full belly over a full mind 🕯️ Sponsored by Woodford Halse’s sister label, Preston Capes Neil Whitehead and Pete Hope return with a track that misleads with its title—offering not celebration, but confrontation. Gravel-voiced poetry over pummeling beats and abstract textures. Dance music for the disenchanted. The full album drops August 1, 2026. “^We Dance” appears only in the digital edition—slightly extended and fully unhinged. 🎶 Also featuring: Backpullver, Shamanez, gribbles, Trevlad, Tim Six, Flux Of Sensations, John Scott Shepherd, Jamie Zarfas, Bartosz Dziadosz, The Flashbulb, Sandro Brugnolini, eardrops, Tim Koch, Waldgrenze, Chaircrusher, Fred Thomas, Philippe Neau, LR Friberg, Christian Kleine, Wavefiler, x.y.r., Suncastle, and no1uknw. This episode includes 3 exclusive tracks that you’ll probably only hear here before they are officially released. On the A side we have Hendekagon – Die Zeitzeit accompanies Die Verschiebung der Zeit, a German-language book of 22 humorous and philosophical essays by Corina Retzlaff exploring the concept of time. The volume is enriched with abstract artwork by Francis Théberge and an exclusive soundtrack by Hendekagon that echoes and expands the themes of the text. Released by Adventurous Music, a non-profit label based in Leipzig, this 108-page book is printed on recycled paper with climate-neutral methods. The included soundtrack adds a surreal sonic dimension to the reflective, often playful explorations of temporality. This is more than a book or an album—it’s a multimedia meditation on how we perceive and experience time, through words, images, and sound. Also on the A side. Supporter, subscriber and true friend of the show Gareth Evans also known as HDRF or Horror Dwarf sent me the track Memories of Dust which will appear on a desert themed compilation, out next month on the Aural Films label. The label that makes soundtracks for movies that do not exist. On the B Side there is an exclusive from Julia Gjertsen & Gustav Davidsson – Into The Rain – from the album – Wandering Mind, Drifting Weather, a meditative ambient collaboration between Norwegian pianist Julia Gjertsen and Swedish trombonist Gustav Davidsson. Created through a slow, cross-border exchange of musical sketches, the album blends expressive piano and atmospheric trombone into a series of compositions that evoke the passing moods of nature—shifting light, soft breezes, and drifting weather fronts. Rooted in classical training but embracing improvisation, the duo sculpt an intimate soundworld where melody and spontaneity coexist. Minimal electronics, Wurlitzer tones, and quiet pads enhance the organic interplay, while each piece captures the fleeting beauty of a moment. The result is a tranquil yet emotionally resonant suite that explores time, mood, and natural transformation—where weather becomes metaphor and sound becomes sanctuary. Coming out on Whitelabrecs on the 19 July.
