Hello there, listeners. It’s me. Trevor.
You’ve pressed play on another Virtual Cassette Library. Twelve tracks. Two sides. A little plastic ghost that flips itself at the halfway mark, like a polite pancake.

The shows stay free for the first week. After that they slip quietly into the hands of my Mixcloud subscribers. Subscribers also receive the expanding series of three-hour adventures titled Veil Frequencies, which is less a mixtape and more a long walk through a curtain that may be sentient.
Now. Each of these episodes is a two-part outing, just like the classic cassette. Unlike mixtapes or playlists, these two sides are curated as proper DJ sets, six tracks segued into one continuous mix, stitched together so carefully you can barely see the thread.

A monster, a music box and a toy Dalek sharing a loch, then a scream addressed to you.
Side A makes tea for three guests at the same water, finds houses for the long-haired with the roof already on, leaves a face deciding to arrive at the free fire, thinks on a Swedish summer afternoon while the pond remembers Atlantis, rings a modern call during migration, and lets the waterfall do the drapery for the live figure. Side B distils essences numbered one-point-one with the exploration still open, scans the stacks with the card catalogue still listening, faces the chorale toward the warmer wall, invites you across the threshold with the kettle already on, holds the room in a thrice-holy hymn, and keeps a place for the scream that already knows your name.
Overall mood: Eccentric, and quietly welcoming — full of open doors, free fires, and co-ops that keep a place for the loud one. Perfect for dusk listening, garden ponds, or sitting still while the next spool still waits.

Drew Huddart’s Scholars of the Peak – Hermit Station No. 7 (The Lost Bird) – PCT 27 – Transmissions from Mother Hill. An album that charts a sonic topography shaped by memory, myth and movement — a suite of transmissions echoing from the ancient ridgelines and cavernous depths of Mam Tor, the legendary “Mother Hill” of the Peak District. Each piece draws from the landscape’s natural upheavals and human imprints: from ancient burial paths to a wartime wreckage, from collapsed earth to long-forgotten mines.

Moray Newlands – Closing (exit) – The Red Red Earth. Moray’s been ruminating on the inevitability of death and how it will come to us all at some point. The red red earth is the culmination of these thoughts and feelings. The meaning of the red red earth, he’s not entirely sure, however it does relate to the soil found along the east coast of Scotland, close to where he lives now and where, you know, one day, perhaps…. The album should ideally be listened to as a single continuous mix which I’ll be featuring on an upcoming episode of Expansive Waves.
