Good day, listeners… or should I say, travellers of the tape. Trevor here. You’ve pressed play on another fragile spool of the Virtual Cassette Library. Twelve-track virtual cassettes that flips themselves at the halfway mark.
If you make music, or run a label, and fancy a place in the library, send your links or Bandcamp codes to trevlad@gmail.com. I read every one. Promise. Tips and subscriptions keep the reels turning. Every little helps the library stay open after dark. A warm, earthy ambient journey through shared currents, evening rituals, and what remains after the light fades. Side A gathers jungle meetings and sacred tea, then moves through sunset marrow, mountain mist, solitary machine colour, and warm rainfall microliths. Side B opens liminal gazes and Holkham shorelines, then settles into piano placeholders, remaining polaroids, morning inlight, and a summer curve of insect hum. Overall mood: Contemplative, healing, and quietly luminous — full of tape hiss, shoreline near-silence, and small rites of duration. Perfect for dusk listening, deep rest, or sitting with what stays. The shows remain free for the first week, then slip quietly into the hands of my Mixcloud subscribers, who currently have over eleven hundred other episodes waiting for them whenever the mood strikes. Subscribers receive the expanding series of 3-hour adventures titled Veil Frequencies. They also get the ever-growing advance version of the forthcoming compilation Quiet Figures.
The tape unspools its visions.
00:01:18 Biodiverse, Anee Molly & Canblaster – Unite Biodiverse, Anee Molly & Canblaster – Unite. Jungle scan and echolocation gather as travellers of the past step into shared current. Illustration and tape hiss hold the meeting. 00:07:02 Time Rival – Sacred Tea Time Rival – Sacred Tea. Tongue drums, kalimba, flute and sun-bleached saturation pour from a planner marked new music. The brew arrives cooked, oversaturated, warm. 00:14:09 Bålsam – Every Sunset Bålsam – Every Sunset. Cicadas and river-rush enter the marrow. A mother’s voice message and a daughter’s unburdened tone sit among orchids and damp earth. Healing moves as pulse. 00:17:40 Maps and Diagrams – Mist on the Mountain Maps and Diagrams – Mist on the Mountain. Loops and found sources cycle and fade. Subtle variation and decay keep happening in quiet instability. 00:21:40 Toàn – DEL 0 Toàn – DEL 0. A single Deluge machine, tape loops, harp and bowed tones layer into synesthetic colour. Solitude hangs as an invisible wall of texture. 00:26:01 zakè, Ossa, ASC – Microlith 8 zakè, Ossa, ASC – Microlith 8. Shimmering keys pour like warm rainfall. Analog lines, chest-deep bass and tape-saturated mist carry 90s ambient memory toward an ambiguous horizon.
The cassette reaches its midpoint and turns.
00:27:48 Philippe Blache – Let This Gaze Be Our Part Philippe Blache – Let This Gaze Be Our Part. Liminal corridors and flowing memory open in meandering textures. Imaginary territories rise through melancholia and repetition. 00:33:47 (EXCLUSIVE) Richard Sage – Holkham Richard Sage – Holkham. Tripod, Zoom and iPhone gather wave-analogues and shoreline seeds. Near silence wears its own palette. 00:41:25 Audio Obscura – Placeholder for Meaning Audio Obscura – Placeholder for Meaning. Piano improvisation from Whitby finds its way after months of stillness. Pyramid shapes and late-year fruit settle into place. 00:48:55 Laurel Morgan & Yorkshire Modular Society – Remaining Laurel Morgan & Yorkshire Modular Society – Remaining. Polaroids and modular breath keep what stays. Scrapbook pages hold the UK location in quiet duration. 00:53:21 David Cordero & Aiko Takahashi – Inlight David Cordero & Aiko Takahashi – Inlight. Piano notes float as points of light. Modular tones gather in soft waves around the threshold of morning. 00:56:45 CIRC – Summer Curve CIRC – Summer Curve. Insect hum and rustle become looped ethereal texture. Everyday night turns into a small sonic rite.
The visions complete their circle. The oxide continues its quiet journey until the end of the spool.
Also in the works: the next compilation, Quiet Figures, release date 26 September. Uncover the narratives whispered by the silent, ever-present figures that shadow us, through compositions that unravel their hidden mysteries. Does that stir anything? Side A exclusives Drew Huddart’s Scholars of the Peak – Hermit Station No. 7 (The Lost Bird) – PCT 27 – Transmissions from Mother Hill. An album that charts a sonic topography shaped by memory, myth and movement — a suite of transmissions echoing from the ancient ridgelines and cavernous depths of Mam Tor, the legendary “Mother Hill” of the Peak District. Each piece draws from the landscape’s natural upheavals and human imprints: from ancient burial paths to a wartime wreckage, from collapsed earth to long-forgotten mines. Due for release on September 1 on the amazing Preston Capes cassette label.
Moray Newlands – Closing (exit) – The Red Red Earth. Moray’s been ruminating on the inevitability of death and how it will come to us all at some point. The red red earth is the culmination of these thoughts and feelings. The meaning of the red red earth, he’s not entirely sure, however it does relate to the soil found along the east coast of Scotland, close to where he lives now and where, you know, one day, perhaps…. The album should ideally be listened to as a single continuous mix which I’ll be featuring on an upcoming episode of Expansive Waves. The Red Red Earth releases August 15, 2025 on Wormhole World.
Side B exclusive Trevlad – EXPANSIVE WAVES 09 – TVCL 04. Which, of course, stands for Trevors Virtual Cassette Library. Every 17 episodes I release the music from behind my voice overs. The latest track from the latest episode is always available to listen to on Bandcamp. When I get to 17 tracks I release the album.
I won’t be commenting between the tracks. You can do that on the time line. Don’t be shy.
