You’ve pressed play on another Virtual Cassette Library. Twelve tracks. Two sides. A little plastic ghost that flips itself at the halfway mark, like a polite pancake.

The shows stay free for the first week, wandering about with their shoelaces undone. After that they slip quietly into the hands of my Mixcloud subscribers, who currently have over eleven hundred other episodes waiting for them whenever the mood strikes, which in my experience is usually Tuesdays, or during eclipses, or when the kettle boils. Subscribers also receive the expanding series of three-hour adventures titled Veil Frequencies, which is less a mixtape and more a long walk through a curtain that may be sentient.
Now. Each of these episodes is a two-part outing, just like the classic cassette. Unlike mixtapes or playlists, these two sides are curated as proper DJ sets, six tracks segued into one continuous mix, stitched together so carefully you can barely see the thread. Unless you look.

Side A opens the door on a nymphaea before the official date, shares fear, rage and love in under a minute, walks the warm marble of a city still standing in the name, lets the wind keep both hands in its pockets and still carry you, files roots under a clause, and blushes a 1970 library record with the flute still warm. Side B marries a rope to itself, lets undesignated buildings prefer to meet, studies a field still learning the season, treats the tuning as the piece, lets the night accept the fire, and turns seven toward the warmer wall.
Overall mood: Contemplative, slightly tender, and quietly architectural — full of thresholds, pencil blueprints, and gardens that leave the gate open. Perfect for dusk listening, fields still learning the season, or sitting still while the next spool still waits.

Now imagine each episode as a colossal rotating stage — a great mechanical blooming lotus. You, the audience only ever glimpse a sliver of it at a time. Every artist is allotted the exact time it takes them to perform their piece. Then they rotate out of view, and the next act glides in. The stage spins at whatever speed the track demands.
The names of the artists and labels I’ll mention before each set — or “side,” as the cassette alchemists call them. Six little incantations per set, plus a general mist of what mood to expect.
Now the stage begins to turn.
A doorway that reboots itself, then a planet showing you the face it keeps away from the sun.
Side A coughs the portal awake, paints Milan limb by limb in grey-cheek library jazz, docks Ishtar’s goddess-ship, waits for Blue Bell Hill to switch from black-and-white to blossom, folds a desert peacock that rarely leaves the room, and hums a 7-inch bodega under fluorescent strip-light.
Side B parks godhead in the sprawl, waltzes a chest-pain name you cannot pronounce, pours top brass that refuses to complicate, walks the talk until it grows bass strings, holds the only hands that exist to be held, and ends on the dark side of the earth — the hemisphere the dying star never got around to lighting.
Overall mood: Playful, cinematic, and quietly cosmic — full of Clay Pipe colour, Batov half-shut eyes, and infrastructure filed under prayer. Perfect for late listening, bodega aisles after hours, or sitting with the drawbridge down while the next spool still waits.

On this episode you’ll hear the cosmic pulsations of “I misteri del mondo” (The Mysteries of the World) by Giuliano Sorgini — another gem unearthed by the excellent Four Flies Records.
Then legendary Japanese ambient artist Rhucle reinterprets Raúl Cantizano & David Cordero’s “Algo a lo que regresar” (Something to Come Back To) from the remix album Aunque llegue la mañana · Refracted (Even If Morning Comes). Eleven artists appear on the record, including zakè, anthéne, Wil Bolton, Ian Hawgood and more. It’s out on David Cordero’s Noray Records.
Next, UK modular synthesist and guitarist Analogue Path with “Uncertain-A” from his name-your-price album Early Days.
This is followed by the longest piece on the episode — a 14-minute meditation from Italian electro-acoustic sound sculptor Gino Fioravanti (Aglaia). The heavily echoed “Anemoi” comes from the recent name-your-price release Altitudes on Projekt Records.
After that we head to Seattle for the duo Guest Bartender Deborah Toyota and the track “Playtime” from their album Music for Babies, out on Mystery Circles.
Closing Side A is Baden-Baden’s free-improvisational drone artist stefan schmidt with the challenging ten-minute “arbrehl” from his latest album tharva gev.
But first, to set the vibe: Giuliano Sorgini with “I misteri del mondo”.

I hope you survived that one. Welcome back, sonic travellers. Six tracks down. Six still waiting.
You’ll hear my favourite Ramsgate-based artist, Nick Bonell (Lone Bison), with the waltzing “Be More Pacific” from his latest Castles in Space release Longshore Drifting.
Next we change the pace with Salt Lake City singer-songwriter Josaleigh Pollett and “Like a River” from her latest album If I Let It Quiet, available on random-colour double vinyl from Lavender Vinyl and also on Audio Antihero.
Then we find ourselves in Lincolnshire — famous for Sir Isaac Newton and for gribbles. The latter genius has just started releasing under his real name, Graham Thorpe, and this is an exclusive first listen: “Ghosts”, from the forthcoming compilation Quiet Figures (digital release 26 September, available for pre-order now on my Trevlad Bandcamp page).
Near the end we’re joined by one of the most prolific ambient artists around, David Cordero, together with Slovenia-based Japanese artist Aiko Takahashi, for the beautiful piano piece “Montsec” from the album Night’s End on Home Normal.
Finally, as it was in the beginning, we return to Italy with Alessio Bertuzzi (Far Away Nebraska) and some magical ambient noodlings in “Empty as this town” from the album Halfway from nowhere, the latest release on Kordel Records (a sub-label of Jogging House’s Seil Records).
But first, Third Kind boss Nicholas Langley and long-time collaborator Stephen Cousins (Fisty Kendal) with the one-minute-thirty-six-second closing piece from their album Now What? titled “French Exit”.

The penultimate track of the first side of the virtual cassette is by Eric Wetherell and the theme from the 1975 HTV series “Sky”. The shortest track of the episode at just 47 seconds. Suggestive and eerie. From the well sold out Album “Sky” on the Buried Treasure label.
Finishing off the first half, we go one year earlier with a track by Milan based Barigozzi Group and a bouncing library jazz track complete with cowbell from 1974 titled “Violet Lips” from the album Woman’s Colours where all the track names are a specific colour combined with a different part of the body.
But first, to set the vibe is the outstanding Jim Jupp aka Belbury Poly and the psychedelic organ infused track “Scarlet Ceremony” from his album “The Owl’s Map” which was originally released back in 2006 on the Ghost Box label.

Welcome sonic travellers to the B side. Six tracks down and six to go.
You’ll hear Lee Spreadbury better known as Gurulee and his wonderfully nostalgic prog-fusion jazz waltz infected track “Flo” from the EP “Into the Light” which is recorded at ATA Studios.
Followed by a group of artists that have probably sneaked their way into this episode in a few ways. Here is Leeds based, Outer Worlds Jazz Ensemble, with the downtempo, sexy, flute injected, library piece titled “Low Orbit” from the album “The Kármán Line” which is out on ATA Records.
After that Nitzan Dana also known as Islands On Tape with a downtempo, hypnotic, cinematic and rimshot heavy piece “Dust Conspiracy” from the EP of the same name. Dropping October 16th on Batov Records.
Then the penultimate track for today comes in the form of the psychedelic jazz-funk grooves of Italys Atabasca and the track “Hell Dorado”. Grab one of the last vinyls of the self titled album on Killer Grooves Records.
Finishing us off is the label that is also a band, Leeds based, “ATA Records” with a party lifter complete with handclaps and bongos in the track, “The Galata Extraction” from the must have album “The Library Archive Vol. 4”

I’ve gone back to doing more podcast style episodes but I’ll do all the talking now in the intro as I’ve put a lot of love into making seamless segued mixes. There is just one break halfway through the episode to give the “virtual cassette” title a meaning. The shows are free for the first week and then go to my very few subscribers who get to enjoy the 260 episodes plus the 822 other shows whenever they like all for the price of… I actually don’t know what you can buy for 3 quid. It used to be a coffee.
This episode is inspired by the key of G minor and based on the amazing retro synth runs of “A Study In Vapors” by “Bluetech” from a release that’s in my top 5 of the year so far “Petite Constellations”.
Every tenth episode I do a best of show. So all these tracks have probably been featured by me over the years and have a special place, for me, in some way. On this episode you’ll be aurally pleasured by Berlin based legends To Rococo Rot with a track simply called “cars”. Originally released on the 1999 album “The Amateur View” which should be in everyone’s collection.
Naples based group Psyché grab our hips with “Cumbia Mahàre” from their debut Four Flies Records, self titled, 2023 release.
Then a trio that have infected me over the past few years, Khruangbin, here joined by the vocal stylings of Leon Bridges in the track “Chocolate Hills” from their 2022 EP Texas Moon.
After that Vincent Taeger aka Tiger Tigre together with, well, himself, in the track “Sport Mécanique” which takes me back to my childhood. My parents watch all sports on tv and this just puts me in that world of 80s sports jingles. It’s taken from the compilation album “ERR REC Library Vol.4 Physical Activity” from 2023.
Ending the A side is the Los Angeles, California based roots reggae infected Pachy García aka Pachyman and the track “Sunset Sound” from the album “The Return of…” released in 2021.
Starting off Side B with Vienna, Austria based synth maestro Dorian Concept and the track “Eigendynamik (Elevator Version)” from the 2020 album “The Jitters”.
Followed by my favourite Stockholm based artist of recent years Joel Danell better known as Sven Wunder. Here with the piece “Pop-Jazz Structures”. Every one of Joels tracks puts me in a happy space. This is from his 2023 album “Late Again”.
Then anyone who has followed the channel knows that I love odd time signatures and the track “Percolator” is in 5/8 and is by the one of a kind originals Stereolab. Taken from the 2025 album “Emperor Tomato Ketchup”.
This leads into the featured Seattle, Washington based, Evan Bartholomew, better known as, Bluetech track “A Study In Vapors”.
Then the penultimate piece for today comes in the form of one of my all time go to artists Air with the track “Les Professionnels” from their debut 1997 EP Premiers Symptômes.
Finishing us off is Salvia Plath aka RUN DMT with nostalgic samples over a hypnotic acoustic guitar line in the track “Money” from the 2009 album BONG VOYAGE.
But first, to set the vibe is New Zealand based folk tinged artist whose voice just grips me Aldous Harding with the song “Weight of the Planets” from her fantastic third album “Designer” from 2019.

Fingers itch for the keys anyway—steal the sound, steal the future, they said. The courtroom hums like a detuned oscillator. One wrong note and the grid swallows me whole. But the tape is already rolling. Escape in 4… 3… 2…

Train doors hiss open onto wet Liverpool concrete, South Parkway signs bleeding orange into the night. Cautionary yellow lines streak past the window like corrupted data. My reflection stares back—hollow, cassette-case thin—while the Mersey rolls black and silver below. Suitcase full of stolen patches rattles on the rack. Every mile erases the courtroom glow. North, south, doesn’t matter. The rhythm says keep moving.

Club lights die one by one, turquoise rectangles folding into black water. Last swimmer’s laughter echoes off tiled walls that smell of chlorine and ozone. I stand at the edge, towel around my neck like a noose, watching the pool reflect a sky that no longer exists. Unreleased. That’s what they’ll call this night too. The gate clangs shut behind me. Echoes only.

A single chord blooms—pure Wunder—lifting the hairs on my arms like static electricity. For one frozen second the motorway becomes a cathedral of light. Then the chord bends, warps, reveals itself as just another illusion. Still, the heart remembers the lift. Still, the lungs remember how to breathe again.

Palm trees made of vector lines shimmer above cracked asphalt. Perfect neon condos float above the desert, windows full of laughing holograms. I reach out—fingers pass straight through pink stucco. The mirage laughs back in 16-bit. Utopia always looked better on the oscilloscope.

Her shoulder under moonlight—silver, cool, impossible. Skin like vinyl left in the sun too long, warm and warped and perfect. I trace the curve with a fingertip and the memory skips, repeats, skips again. Pelle di luna. The only sample I never stole.
Pabellón Sintético – La Resistencia – 21:20
Concrete walls pulse with red spray-paint glyphs. We are the resistance of the last frequency. Boots on wet pavement, synths hidden in rucksacks, hearts beating in 4/4 defiance. Sirens in the distance sound like detuned arpeggios. We don’t run. We modulate.
Acos CoolKAs – Stargazing – 29:09
Roof tiles cold against my back. Stars above look like dead LEDs someone forgot to turn off. I count them anyway—each one a lost patch, each one a night we almost made. The city hums below like a held note. I keep staring until the sky itself starts to breathe.
Dark Strands – We Own The Night – 34:08
We own the night. The slogan tastes like copper and cheap smoke. Streetlights flicker in time with the kick. Shadows lengthen, stretch into black ribbons we can hide inside. Tonight the city belongs to anyone with a sequencer and a grudge. Tonight we are the dark strands holding everything together.

Flashlight beam sweeps empty arcades, hunting for one more glowing screen. Makeup smeared across cracked mirrors, vanity long gone. I search for the signal that will tell me it’s safe to stop running. Every corner throws back only my own face, distorted, beautiful, terrified.

Malcontent. The word snarls in my chest like a broken sawtooth. Everything perfect is a lie. Every utopia glitches. Every lover fades to static. I bare my teeth at the moon and the moon bares its teeth right back. Good. At least we understand each other.

Program 70 boots in the glovebox—green phosphor glow lighting the steering wheel. Old code I wrote when I still believed in happy endings. It hums, remembers me, offers one last subroutine: RUN AWAY. I laugh until the tears short-circuit the dashboard.

Beep. Beep. The scanner on the dash lights up red. They’re close. Detector never lies. I floor it. The engine screams in perfect fifths. Every beep is another bar of the final track I’ll never finish.
Albin – Hammenhög – 52:13
Hammenhög appears like a memory I never lived—red wooden houses, windmills frozen mid-turn, snow that shouldn’t be here in July. I pull over, engine ticking cool. For one moment the world is quiet. Then the detector beeps again. Even paradise has an exit ramp.
Larry Manteca – Tuareg Road – 55:32
Sand whips across the windshield in turquoise dunes. Tuareg Road stretches forever under a violet sky. No mirrors, no rear-view, just forward. The car becomes a camel made of chrome. I ride the arpeggio into infinity.
Erez Yaary – O7 – 57:05
O7. The secret orbit. The code inside the code. I punch it into the old radio and the stars realign. For seven seconds I am outside everything—outside the trial, outside the night, outside death itself. Then gravity remembers my name.

The road ends at a cliff of pure white noise. I kill the engine. The last chord hangs in the air like a question that already knows the answer. We can’t wait for death—death has been riding shotgun the whole time, tapping its foot to the beat. I smile, finally. The tape clicks off. Silence rushes in, warm and endless.

I close my eyes.

We float tonight through drifts of ambient electronic, modular wanderings, dubwise echoes, some art rock angles, leftfield pop inflections, drone undertows, and the odd burst of experimental pop. Places flicker by: Wormhole World gatherings, Republic of Music corners, Castles in Space haunts, Invisible Inc. pathways, Four Flies shadows, and points scattered from Lancashire to Vilnius, Munich to Mexico City.
The longest stretch in the selection comes from Caught in Joy – Elsewhere, a patient unravelling that lingers in the mind. The shortest snaps past in a flash with Allmanna Town – Sample 24, not even reaching the minute mark.

And now for something completely different. Deerhoof deliver L’Amour Stories from Apple O’ on Joyful Noise Recordings. Quick, angular art rock bursts with playful yelps and tight rhythmic jabs.

Now time to punk it up. Tinned Meats present Caught in the Wild from Kilter on I Heart Noise. Raw edges meet noisy propulsion, caught somewhere between garage grit and wilder impulses. Mad stuff…

And now Keith Seatman with Tonight’s Guests Are? from the forthcoming Counting to Ten Then Back Again on Castles in Space. Radiophonic quirks and psych-folk fragments evoke childhood games and firework packaging memories, playful yet oddly disorienting.

The Polish legend of Coconut Creek, Caught in Joy closes Side A with Elsewhere.
Karol is the most prolific Berlin school artist on the planet. He produces so much quality music on a weekly basis. Which he records live and can be witnessed on his Youtube channel. Analogue drooling adventures. The track Elsewhere is from the release Colorfield. Self released back in mid December. Karol has released 4 albums since then just for some perspective. This is Analogue coloured space drifts to close out the first side of the show.

Komodo Kolektif follow with Disciple Of The Drone (GK Machine Disciple Of The Dub) also from that Voyager Dubs compilation on Invisible, Inc. Drone devotion meets dub disciple rites, heavy and hypnotic. Invisible, Inc. is a label I wish I could play more of on the channel, and just can’t for financial reasons. They are great so if you can grab some of their beautiful physical releases.

Now friend of the show Russian artist Ndorfik contributes Tahvi from Solos on People Can Listen. 5/8 Idm explorations carve sparse, introspective paths. Good evening, or morning, or whatever sliver of the clock you’ve managed to carve out for yourself. This is Trev’s Virtual Cassette Library, episode 176. I’m your guide, Trevor.
The cassette sits ready in the deck, labels hand-scribbled, oxide already flaking a bit at the edges. Side A and Side B, twenty artists strung across them like beads on a frayed string. We’ll flip the tape halfway through, that satisfying clunk and hiss, because some things refuse to be digital.
Tonight we drift through ambient drifts, kosmische pulses, drone meditations, a touch of library funk, some psychedelic sprawl, electroacoustic murmurs from places like Bulgaria, the UK, Munich, Buenos Aires, Athens, Rome, Sheffield, Colorado, and a few others that don’t fit neatly on any map. The longest track stretches out patiently, Asha Patera’s – Wandering in the Upside Down from Sounds for the Soul Records, clocking in at just over 11 minutes. Durations aside, none hurry. There’s an exclusive track which open the B side from Moscow artist DEE_KAY and his track Bellcut. But we’ll get to all that in a bit.
Headphones on if you’ve got them. Volume where it feels intimate. Let the kettle whistle if it wants to. The world can wait.
We begin with a January release from the Mahorka label in Bulgaria, a collected volume of drone and teknoiz spanning a decade. Autonomаton offers The UFO project remix—eerie, floating synth washes that suggest something observed from a great height, unhurried and slightly unsettling in the best way. Next, Mark Ellery Griffiths with Synthi Sequence B. Loops and sequences built on vintage synths, patient repetitions that build quiet architectures. Mark is a regular of my shows and doesn’t get the credit he should. Check out his Bandcamp releases. He’s nudging on 50 and they’re name your price. Danielle Nia now, Longing For Togetherness. Warm, enveloping tones from i u we records, a gentle pull toward connection without ever forcing the issue. Stunning patchwork from the great Connected 3 compilation. Released a couple of weeks back on i u we records.

Greek artist Substak and his track Apartment Window from Belgian ambient label Daydreamers. A quick view onto quiet streets, field recordings woven into subtle rhythms, the sound of somewhere lived-in and watched over time. From the EP Empty Bench – released not two weeks ago.

A good friend of the channel Asha Patera, Wandering in the Upside Down. Dream-logic drifts and inverted atmospheres from Sounds for the Soul Records, like walking through familiar rooms that have rearranged themselves while you slept. The Vale of Shadows – Sounds for the Soul. Which is a Stranger Things inspired ambient compilation. Also released in January. This is the long haul.

Belgian artist Jeroen Lauwers is, Red Stars Over Tokyo with In Trance from self released The Burning Spiral. Pulsing, hypnotic acid tinged layers that suggest endless night drives through neon-lit cities that might not exist. The Burning Spiral. released back in December.

Southend On Sea artist Adrian Lane, After The Deluge. Post-flood calm, piano and strings emerging from residue, reflective, haunted and sparse. Their Ghosts and Ours – out on Sheffields finest Audiobulb.

Argentinian artist Puppy Bordiga with mRn, Solarium. Collaborative warmth, sunlit electronics and gentle percussion from Walking the Way III. Self released back in November.

ATA Records is a label and I can’t get my head around if they are also a band. They really know their library stuff but on this release and others the artist is simply ATA Records, no credits to the artists which is a shame. Anyway This is Tatsuya, The Sword. Good evening, or morning, or whatever sliver of the clock you’ve washed up in. This is Trev’s Virtual Cassette Library, episode one hundred and seventy-five. I’m Trevor, here again, turning over another worn cassette in the dim glow, letting the oxide whisper its secrets.
These tapes arrive unmarked most times, or with labels half-peeled, but they carry traces—field recordings folded into drone, synths that drift like low cloud over northern latitudes, breaks that nod to libraries long since catalogued and forgotten, post-rock edges softened by reverb tails, psych undercurrents that never quite surface, ambient excursions that refuse to resolve. Scotland lingers in a few of these grooves, Cologne breathes through one, Italy scatters light across another, while others seem to come from no fixed place at all, just coordinates lost between sleep and map.
No rush tonight. Twenty pieces, two sides, a flip when the spool runs thin. If the kettle needs boiling, let it. If the room grows cold, pull something closer. The world can wait outside the door.
It’s a special Saturday here in Sweden and marks the start of the Melody Festival. Which, however you feel about it makes the long winter up here bearable. How ever you feel about the music represented.

Now a shot one, 1:25 to be exact. Tim Story and Cafe Kaputt, taken from Buzzle on Curious Music. Melancholic Mellotron keys and a Hugh Hopper style bass, in a room that’s emptying slowly.

The longest piece for the episode at 8 minutes. Droning Cats with NRV bring Dreams with Claws, from Cartography of Sleep on Barcelona based See Blue Audio. Claws sheathed in haze, dreams that scratch gently. Bobbling bass which sounds like it’s being played by the tide. and sparse porch friendly guitar lines.

“Hello, I’m Trevor, and this is episode one‑five‑nine of the Virtual Cassette Library. Today’s theme is Twist Fondest Waffle—which, as usual, is both the track you’re hearing underneath and a location you can find on a map, if you’re the sort who enjoys chasing coordinates on What3Words. We’ve got ninety minutes ahead—two sides, fifteen tracks each. Some names you’ll know, some you won’t, and that’s half the fun. We begin with Arbee & Norvik drifting through a Montréal alleyway, Bary Center disappearing into the trees, and Pocket Lint reminding us that we grow through our friends. There’s a rise‑in‑love from micca, diamond‑cracking teeth from pjpriiincess, and a new sun courtesy of GODTET. Now then, starting back on episode 156, there’s a little cipher game running through the series. Each episode, during the intermission, you’ll hear a number. Scribble it down. After ten episodes, you’ll have the full sequence. Put the pieces together, crack the cipher, and you’ll unlock a code that knocks ninety‑five percent off anything on my Bandcamp page. Which means you can scoop up the whole discography for about two quid. It’s not meant to be difficult—just enough to keep you awake at night wondering if you’ll get it right. Later on, we’ll hear winter choruses from Unruly Disturbance, a 2025 remaster from Ian Boddy & Chris Carter, and a snowy Christmas‑Eve vignette from On Idyl. Leisure Prison gives us another living space, Tim Story offers a dust bale hole, and Clearways pings us exactly once before Michael D. Tidwell closes the A side. There’s cartography from Droning Cats with NRV, Italian library breaks from Modern Sound Quartet, and a fading coordinate from Grant Beasley. Roedelius appears, as he often does, like a quiet blessing. I’ve slipped in one of my own—Another Oddly Screamed—before Floating Points and Raphah carry us gently to the end. It’s ambient, kosmische, wintery, slightly haunted, and occasionally festive in a sideways sort of way.
