Good day, listeners… or should I say, travellers of the tape.
Trevor here. You’ve pressed play on another Virtual Cassette Library. Twelve-track virtual cassettes that flips themselves at the halfway mark.

The shows remain free for the first week, then slip quietly into the hands of my Mixcloud subscribers, who currently have over eleven hundred other episodes waiting for them whenever the mood strikes. Subscribers also receive the expanding series of 3-hour adventures titled Veil Frequencies.
Now imagine each episode as a colossal rotating stage — a great mechanical blooming lotus. You, the audience only ever glimpse a sliver of it at a time. Every artist is allotted the exact time it takes them to perform their piece. Then they rotate out of view, and the next act glides in. The stage spins at whatever speed the track demands.
The names of the artists and labels I’ll mention before each set — or “side,” as the cassette alchemists call them. Six little incantations per set, plus a general mist of what mood to expect.
Now the stage begins to turn.
Moss collecting light before the record exists, then tour days that travel only as far as their own shadow.
Side A gathers moss on a lotus that has not officially opened, parks Sol in the cat’s window, breaks Kerala dawn against industrial dusk, coils organisms above the weather, circumnavigates on a borrowed lighthouse, and smears 1982 until the hair still looks like a forecast. Side B lives in the umbra that remembers what cast it, opens water with no coastline drawn on it, retires speech for the evening, keeps a 2012 hold tone wearing pearls, jams Golden Acres until the punchline clocks out, and packs IDM for a journey only a shadow completes.
Overall mood: Contemplative, prismatic, and quietly migratory — full of exclusive October light, borrowed signals, and harbour lamps left on anyway. Perfect for dusk listening, hold music that never connects, or sitting still while the next spool still waits.

A liquid, slightly haunted ambient journey through West Riding flocks, kudzu moonlight, and cities that refuse to end.
Side A watches the pinder keep the flock, then drifts under a kudzu moon, through solemn dreams beneath hushed currents, a Bethlehem journey, night-time puzzle sequences, and the slow pressure of mane nobiscum. Side B opens eternal cities, stirs a storm in a water-glass, presses a dystopian button, walks Verona’s water, swells with tide, and ends in soft cyber-space pulses.

A gentle, introspective ambient journey through awareness, weightlessness, storms, and quiet reflection.
Side A moves from attentive listening and zero-gravity daydreams into open arms and sweltering heat. Side B drifts through afflicted warmth, dawn-to-dusk passage, dramatic storms, blank slates, mirrored reflections, and motivated absence.
Overall mood: Contemplative, tender, and atmospheric — balancing soft intimacy with moments of intensity. Ideal for deep listening, meditation, or peaceful solitude.

Then Paris based Italian modular composer Alessandro De Nicola bathes us in drone in the track titled “Open Arms” from the 27 track double baby pink cassette compilation “Connection: sculpting silence” from 2024 out on Hylé Tapes.
The penultimate track of the first side of the virtual cassette is by Danish artist øjeRum (eye space), and their piece titled “Et Pust I Sivet”(A Breath Among the Reeds) from the 2022 album Butterfly Tongues More Ancient Than Flowers. Available through Amulet of Tears.
Finishing off the first half is Cincinnati, Ohio based friend Ed Herbers with a track many of us have felt recently titled “Sweltering” from the third of his four part album series titled “Season Cycle: Summer” from the always brilliant Passed Recordings label.
But first, to set the vibe is British producer Ryan Bissett, aka Halftribe, with a gentle, atmospheric invitation into the episode via the track “Listen” from the album “Disappear in Silent Ways” out on Dutch label DRONARIVM.

Welcome to the B side. Six tracks down and six to go.
You’ll hear Rick Jones better known as Dark Fidelity Hi Fi in a short colourful cascade in the track “Dawn To Dusk Passenger” from the Limited Edition CD album “Your Skyline Correspondent” and that’s out on Glasgow based super label Bricolage.
After that Minneapolis, Minnesota based duo Amy McNally and Matthew Hiram aka Visible Light with their immersive field recordings from El Yunque Bosque Nacional, Puerto Rico and a piece titled “La Tormenta” (The Storm) from the eco-friendly CD EP Sierra de Luquillo: A Living Soundscape.
Then Los Angeles, California based friend David Strother brings the track that inspired this episode titled “Tabula Rasa” a short suggestive violin piece from his latest release “A Brilliant Midnight”.
Then the penultimate track for today comes in the form of another track from that wonderful Hylé Tapes compilation “Connection: sculpting silence” this time by the amazing modular artist Andrea Cichecki and the bubbling sounds of “Mirrored reflections”.
Finishing us off is Québec based artist Mathieu Lamontagne better known as Arbee and the modular based track “Absence motivée” (excused absence) from the album “En vain” (In Vain) out on the ever astounding Ambient Cat label.

Welcome to Trev’s Virtual Cassette Library, Episode 186, your virtual mixtape radio for the sonically adventurous. As per usual we’ll dive into 20 artists. All the shows have three word subtitles for places that have some meaning for me personally. These are also used as names for the background music in show intros and outros. This episodes’ subtitle is Worker Buffoon Exact which is the entrance to Stockholms legendary jazz club Fasching.

The penultimate track for this side of the virtual cassette. Kavalcade unleashes DECAY 01, rusted machinery grinding in an abandoned factory, sparks flying from corroded gears under flickering neon. From the EP SIGNAL which drops May 1 on Machine Records.
We end the first half with Philippe Petit who drapes Tropicalism in an Empire wardrobe, velvet curtains parting on a colonial ballroom overgrown with vines, exotic blooms tangling with faded grandeur. The shortest piece at only 49 seconds. From the album The Acoustic Cornet, an hommage to Leonora Carrington out on Mahorka.
Flipping to the B side, Nadia Struiwigh modulates MOD1, circuit boards humming in a sterile lab, pulses syncing like neural fireworks in chrome reflections. From a compilation I’ve played extensively on the channel, connected #3, from the great label i u we records.
Next, a show exclusive. The Eyes and the Mistoids trail Snails That Failed, slimy paths glistening on rain-slicked garden stones, slow spirals unraveling under overcast skies. From the album The Beware Gallery which will drop on March 20 on Waxing Crescent Records.

Next, Louis Sarno captures Bayaka women singing yeyi in the forest (Central African Republic), ancient trees canopying harmonious calls, leaves rustling in rhythmic unity with hidden streams. From the compilation A Century of Sounds out on Cities and Memory.
Now, Japanese artist Yasutaka Sato aka Virgo blooms Zoophyte, underwater gardens swaying in currents, coral tendrils unfurling like living sculptures in turquoise light. From the album, Roots of Memories (Remastered- Deluxe Edition), out on Neo Ouija.
