Good day, listeners… or should I say, travellers of the tape. Trevor here. You’ve pressed play on another Virtual Cassette Library. Twelve-track virtual cassettes that flips themselves at the halfway mark.
If you make music, or run a label, and fancy a place in the library, send your links or Bandcamp codes to trevlad@gmail.com. I read every one. Promise. Tips and subscriptions keep the reels turning. Every little helps the library stay open after dark.
A luminous, slightly mythic ambient journey through leaps of heart, early fog, and skies that finally crack. Side A opens in analog gemstone narrative and rough-edged improg driftwood, then eases through Imaginary North fog, psychill easing, Tsukuba shinonome, and a silken harp that frees its shadow. Side B contemplates Gnawa sorrow by hand, sits in blue, fades into a brighter age with trumpet, locks onto frequency of light, follows a sea diver down, and ends when the sky cracks over the rocky shore. Overall mood: Expansive, contemplative, and quietly oceanic — full of exclusive transmissions, handmade sonorities, and light arriving after long water. Perfect for deep listening, late hours, or sitting with the shoreline while the next reel still waits.
The shows remain free for the first week, then slip quietly into the hands of my Mixcloud subscribers, who currently have over eleven hundred other episodes waiting for them whenever the mood strikes. Subscribers receive the expanding series of 3-hour adventures titled Veil Frequencies. They also get the ever-growing advance version of the forthcoming compilation Quiet Figures.
The tape unspools its visions.

A cosmic, slightly archival ambient journey through uncharted quadrants, greenhouse arks, and nine worlds below. Side A drifts from exclusive galactic isolation and catalystic dreaming into a lumbering poem-machine, last-forest arks, Portuguese hardware colour, and hymns that give everything they have. Side B opens in guitar-and-harmony tranquility, then moves through Kosmische hover, shadow-planet rework, Niflhel depths, a vacation-light response, and ends in a slanted average where nothing needs proving. Overall mood: Expansive, contemplative, and quietly generous — full of star-aimed memory, analogue drive, and safe mediocrity. Perfect for deep listening, late hours, or sitting still while the tape finds its own orbit.

Good day listeners, wherever you are. Trevor here. Apologies for the sound quality today. I’m on holidays and find it hard to hard to get a spot quiet enough to record. Anyway… Welcome to the Virtual Cassette Library. Episode 258. A 12 track virtual tape with a metaphysical flip at the half way mark. If you make music, or are a label, and would like to be featured, send your file links or Bandcamp codes to trevlad@gmail.com. I’d love to hear what you’re working on. Please leave a tip and subscribe to the Mixcloud channel every little helps. A quirky, colourful, and atmospheric ambient journey through vintage whimsy, seasonal introspection, and urban environments. Side A moves from posh timepieces and color seas into winter frost, fluid transference, cloud gazing, and returning light. Side B shifts through modular habitats, Trieste streets, secure institutions, and cinematic projections. Overall mood: Playful yet contemplative, warm, and slightly uncanny with a mix of nostalgia and modern reflection. Perfect for adventurous listening or relaxed evenings. I’ve gone back to doing more podcast like episodes but I’ll do all the talking now in the intro as I put a lot of love into making seamless segued mixes. There is just one break halfway through to give the “virtual cassette” meaning. The shows are free for the first week and then go to my too few subscribers who get to enjoy the 258 episodes plus the 820 other shows whenever they like all for the price of… I actually don’t know what you can buy for €3 anymore. It used to be a coffee. Episode 258 is based on the track “Habitat 67” by my friends “The Twelve Hour Foundation” from the release “Expanded & Repurposed” coming out on their Bandcamp on July 27th.
On this episode you’ll be aurally pleasured by Queens, New York based Chris Moore aka Light Vortex with the sound art track “Awash In A Sea Of Color” from the album “Aurora In Georgian Bay” out on Mortality Tables. My friend of the channel Matthew Davies aka Vic Mars with the Chilled piece we all need right now “Winter II” from his collection of must have tracks “From Different Landscapes”. A beat driven piece by Paris, France based Stephane Laporte aka Domotic from his amazing 36 track album which I’ve been playing a lot recently “Fourrure Sounds Vol. 3 to 6” out on Virtual Cassette supporting label Astra Solaria Recordings. Then Canadian artist Grant Gard, who records as landtitles with the clarinet infused track “staring at the clouds” from the album “geographic beings, phosphorus mountains” out on whitelabrecs. After that Tucson, Arizona based Kirk Markarian aka Neuro… No Neuro with the ambient swelling track “You Wasted Your Time” from the album “MemLoss” out on the Sheffield based Audiobulb label. Then from the latest Cyclical Dreams label release comes the wonderfully stereo panned piece “The Light That Returns” by Adam Filip from the album “The Returning Circle”. Ending the A side is Michael Plaster aka yttriphie with the Boards of Canada tinged “A Narrow Field of View” from the album “Solipsis” out on Projekt Records. Starting off Side B is the inspiration for this episode and one of those bands that are instantly recognisable and just a good mood pill in general. They are of course Polly Hulse and Jez Butler collectively known as The Twelve Hour Foundation. With a track from their latest release “Expanded & Repurposed” with the track “Habitat 67” featuring the brilliant Alan Gubby of Buried Treasure / Revbjelde fame adding vibraphone to this classic. This flows into Brutalist architecture inspired “Rozzol Melara [Triest]” by Fredy Engel aka MiDi BiTCH from another Cyclical Dreams release titled “Habitat”. Then the penultimate piece for today comes in the form of another favourite artist from the past few years Cate Francesca Brooks and the hypnotic piece “Secure Environments Ltd” from the album “For Your Security”. And finishing us off is the 18 minute 25 second piece “Untitled 1 [a,b,c,d,e]” by The Projectionist from the rather special label The Dream Journal Institute whose artists don’t seem to actually exist yet they are not AI. This track would have ended up on an episode of Expansive Waves but I’m not doing them any more as they just aren’t worth it. Too much time equals too few listeners. But setting the vibe for all of this is Portsmouth based legend Keith Seatman with his track “A Posh Hat and Timepiece” from the album “Counting To Ten Then Back Again” out on Castles In Space. So settle in, turn it up a bit, and let’s see where it takes us. I hope you enjoy it. One side flip, just the music.

This is Trevor here, on the 17th of January 2026. Bringing you Trev’s Virtual Cassette Library, cassette number 169. Two sides, as ever. A flip in the middle. Twenty names scratched onto the insert in biro that’s starting to fade. We begin Side A, with Lisbon Portugal based JB Kyron and Tony Watts who together call themselves Hidden Horse — Trespass Into The Maze from their forthcoming release Renewer and also on the upcoming vinyl compilation Extracellular — from Buried Treasure. Which, at the moment can only be heard on CD when you purchase a Gig Ticket Promo. A gig featuring some great acts highlighting avant-garde abstraction & hip-swinging electronica which takes place at the Rising Sun Arts Centre, in Reading, on the 28th of February. Tickets are only 6 pounds. A no brainer if you’re in that neck of the woods. Trespass Into The Maze is a slow unfurling of field recordings and distant bells, like walking through fog that remembers your footsteps. So headphones on, let time dissolve, and let the frequencies claim you. Next up is Scottish artist. Veryan — and the remix version of Needles At The Bottom Of The Sea, by Jules Straw aka, Pinklogik. Taken from the three track, name your price, self released, Broken Mirrors EP. Deep sub-aquatic drift, pulses that rise and fall like breath under pressure. Dolphins of Venice — Guldschmitt From Captains of Industry — Mahorka. Golden drones meet faint mechanical clatter, somewhere between Venice canals and abandoned factories. Coming up the channels best friend in the form of Gareth Evans also known as Horrowdwarf or HDRF — here with one of the many great tracks from my own curated 45 track compilation Resonances From The Depths. Gareth is one of those people you’re happy to have on the planet, and deserves at least a plaque for being himself. Layered aquatic melancholy, synths that bubble and subside without ever quite surfacing. HDRF, But Drowning. Now some damp drones from Mosaicist — Unseen For The Day From The Fog Is Lifting — released back in November on Whitelabrecs. Quiet guitar figures dissolve into haze, the sound of light slowly leaving a room. Now another track from that Buried treasure Extracellular compilation from Domotic — Ossature. Originally released on the self released Fourrure Sounds Vol. 2 — Bone-dry textures and soft fur-like pads, intimate and strangely tactile with bonkers bubbling percussive sequences. Next up LA based Steve Pacheco takes us out into the clouds with — Aspen Grove From Islas Calm Cloud — Whitelabrecs. Gentle wind through high branches, sparse piano notes caught in the aspens. Now from Antwerp, Belgium Gregory Geerts also known as, Strangebird~Sounds brings us some Eurorack modular magic with the track — FLUORITE From Minerals Form The Crust Crystalline resonances, mineral shimmer that feels both ancient and newly formed. Released on Audiobulb Records yesterday. Another exclusive track also from Audiobulb records now from idiiom wonderful improvised vocalisations in the title track Neural Network dropping on the 7th of February. Glitching, half-remembered machine dreams, edges that blur between code and consciousness. Finishing off the A side is an artists I played yesterday on the EXPANSIVE WAVES episode. This is applecore — fmbient From Contact At The Deep Bottom — a name your price release that dropped on the 11th of January via the Mahorka label. Warm, lo-fi ambient hum, like a distant server farm breathing in the night.
Side B
Starting of the second half of the show is a release from yesterday from Argentinian synthesist Ulises Labaronnie — Evening thoughts From Cycles De Mémoire — Cyclical Dreams. Reflective, almost elegiac pads that drift through twilight memory. And now Bernard Grancher — with, excuse my French, Sous les flots incertains et la fange du matin, which translates as Under the uncertain floods and the mire of the morning From Astra Lumen Solaria which dropped January 6th on artist curated label Astra Solaria Recordings. Blissful retro synth currents, morning mud, slow and deliberate. Gareth Jones — erSprach From Mortality Tables single — released January 12th on Mortality Tables. Odd sampled fragments, suspended in vast reverb, half incantation. And now the brothers Clive and Mark Ives also known as Woo — Abstract Objects From the album M=C — Self released on the 21st of December. Floating, free-form abstraction, gentle percussion that never quite commits to rhythm.
Some deep drone now from the legends The Black Dog — Sleep Deprivation 44: Frayed Edges Consciousness From The Black Dog Presents Sleep Deprivation Greatest Hits Vol. 3. Exhausted, fraying electronics, the sound of a mind at 4 a.m. still refusing to shut down.
Now a name we’ve all grown up with in Karl Bartos of Kraftwerk fame here with the track Another Reality From the compilation Bureau B 2025 Kosmische pulse, clean and measured, a doorway left ajar to somewhere parallel. We head back to Whitelabrecs and a release that dropped today in the form of the must have compilation Sleeplaboratory6.0 here is French artist Eric Allietta better known as Ancient Astronaut — Lightened. Weightless drift, light slowly returning after long dark. Rutger Zuydervelt — House of Strength From House of Strength — released last November on the amazing Dutch label, Dronarivm. Architectural drones, solid yet permeable, like walking through rooms made of sound. The penultimate piece from the episode is also an exclusive track from Third Kind Records 5 quid subscription service which entitles subscribers to exclusive stuff as well as 50% off merch. Rupert Lally & Nicholas Langley — Acid Pavilions Acid-touched modular wanderings, pavilions erected and dismantled in the same breath. Before the reels slow, a few words. Thanks for staying with it. These tapes aren’t made for playlists or algorithms. They’re made for the hours when the rest of the world has gone quiet. If anything here stayed with you, find the artists, buy the music, keep the small labels breathing. Stream this one on Mixcloud while it lasts, links and credits at trevor.se and in the comments. Say something if the mood takes you. Or say nothing. Both are fine. I was recently back in Dublin for a few days and met with a couple of my closest friends from the past. At the honorary pub session there was excitement about this final act. Who are new to me oddly. Thanks to Garret and Graham for the heads up. This is Thee Oh Sees — Toe Cutter – Thumb Buster From Floating Coffin — Self released Garage-psych motorik churn, the only moment tonight where things get properly physical. Until the next cassette finds its way into the deck—stay resonant. Trevor, signing off.

The A side opens with a descent beneath the surface—into fractured ground and emotional resonance. From Newcastle’s electronic frontier, Bartholomew brings us “Land Fracture”, a track from his forthcoming album Subterranea, releasing July 25th via Castles In Space very own Lunar Module. Crafted by composer Chris Bartholomew, whose theatrical credits include the Barbican and National Theatre Studio, this piece fuses cinematic storytelling with generative electronics, orchestral textures, and raw sonic abrasion. It’s a meditation on instability—both geological and emotional. 🌀 “Land Fracture” feels like a fault line rendered in sound. Granular textures crackle beneath sweeping harmonic arcs. There’s tension, but also grace. Think Hans Zimmer’s emotional weight, Tim Hecker’s digital erosion, and Ben Frost’s stark minimalism—all refracted through Bartholomew’s unique lens. The album Subterranea was born after a shared bill with Gordon Chapman-Fox of Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan. That performance led to this release on Lunar Module, and it’s already drawing praise from sonic visionaries like Leafcutter John, who described the album as: “Cryogenically frozen Beach Boys slowly melting from the Earth’s final great glacier.” 🎧 “Land Fracture” is just one of eight tracks that explore resilience, collapse, and the beauty found in broken structures. The full album drops July 25th on CD and digital. If you’re near Newcastle, don’t miss the launch party at The Globe on July 24th. 🌌 Let the ground shift. Let the frequencies fracture. This is Bartholomew.
Also on the A side a moment of return, of memory, of warmth wrapped in stillness. This exclusive preview comes from the upcoming album Aunque llegue la mañana by Spanish duo Raúl Cantizano and David Cordero, featuring the haunting voice of Lela Soto. The track is titled “Algo a lo que regresar”—something to return to—and it lives up to its name. It’s a quiet invocation of place and feeling, where Cantizano’s flamenco guitar gently converses with Cordero’s ambient textures. The result is a soundscape that feels both rooted and weightless, like a memory suspended in golden light. 🌀 Lela Soto’s voice drifts in like a breeze through an open window—fragile, soulful, and timeless. Her presence adds a spectral warmth to the minimalist arrangement, grounding the electronics in something deeply human. This is not fusion—it’s communion. Flamenco and ambient don’t clash here; they breathe together. The track is part of a larger work that explores absence, light, and the quiet persistence of hope. 🎧 The full album releases July 18, 2025, via Noray Records, with a limited cassette edition and digital formats available. Until then, this exclusive track offers a glimpse into a world where tradition and experimentation meet in hushed reverence. 🌙 Let this be your anchor. Let it remind you of something worth returning to. ⚡️ The final exclusive of the episode follows directly after this.—a track that doesn’t whisper, it confronts. This is “Trans Kid Karmic Vengeance” by East London’s Bit Cloudy, from the upcoming full-length protest album U.S. Nadir, releasing August 8th, 2025. Known for his work across labels like Castles In Space, Lost Map, and Front and Follow, Bit Cloudy delivers a sonic gut-punch here—an instrumental that seethes with urgency and layered defiance. It’s IDM with teeth. Ambient with a purpose. 🌀 “Trans Kid Karmic Vengeance” is a title that says everything before the first note hits. It’s a rallying cry, a reckoning, and a reclamation. The track itself is a dense weave of distorted textures, and melodic fragments that shimmer like broken glass in sunlight. It’s fierce, but never chaotic—every element is placed with intention. It’s resistance in waveform. A response to cruelty, to erasure, to the systems that fail the most vulnerable. And it’s delivered with a clarity that cuts through the noise. 🎧 Pre-order the full album U.S. Nadir via Bit Cloudy’s Bandcamp Page.
